Small Idaho Town Goes Ballistic

I like the intro to the article though...Detroit is known for cars, LA for stars...it should have follow through that Idaho is known for its potatoes or that tv was invented in Rigby, or that Oregon has the most ghost towns in the country. The intent is excellent! Anything to keep the local people working is good. I hope they succeed.

Being an Idaho resident, this is the perfect place for gun makers to set up there companys. You can own any weapon you want here and its legal. just about every one carries a gun or has one in there home or vehicle, and crime here is just about non existant. There are also a lot of people here that are out of work, and im one of them that can`t find a job right now.

That is a shame. Sounds like a nice town...anywhere where crime is non-existent is like good place. My husband's youngest brother lives in in Boise. I hope you find a job soon. I will pray for you.

You can thank tree hugging special interest for some of the ghost towns in Oregon. The town I live in had three or four lumber mills back in the day. All that's left is one veneer drying plant. Don't see much changing until we weed out the liberals in Portland, Salem and Eugene. Go for it Idaho. I hope you succeed.

don't blame it on the tree huggers but rather the corporations who misappropriated mismanaged and misuse the worlds natural resources by kissing corporate and other corrupt means of usury not to mention corporate greed..if hemp was allowed for paper and countless other products there would be no need to destroy our nations forests
and still the nations citizens would have plenty of jobs to go around
the destruction of this nation is our own selected leaders doings imo

No one is destroying the nations forest. Trees are a renewable resouce. They need to be harvested and replanted. It's typical of libs like you to rant about something you know little about and doesn't fit what ever agend you are pushing at ther time. Don't be posting picture of logging operations and try to use that of proof of damaging the forest. During the operation things can look a little ugly. Can,t be helpped. After they are done it's cleaned up and replanted. Logging, the little that is being done today mostly on private land, has changed over the last 50 years. You are the one that said you don't like bringing up the past because you can't change it. Quit brining it up.

Do you ever notice the pattern of how this woman replies to every posts that is in this forum??? It is practically the same thing over and over again. Her life is pretty much that of Groundhog Day but with a different tone to it. I believe she has a hunger for attention. She has to be in every post, even if most of the other posters are annoyed at her, she wouldn't budge. She has something to say -- most of it against. She divides and collides with people, not someone who will unite. But she will side with a few because she think that they mirrorred her thoughts then later on she will find out that she is the oddball even with her chosen few. I do not read her posts anymore. I am just concern about the nerves of those that she collides with. She is dangerous because most of the time she flip flops from one topic to another and has this great need to divert a post, any post, so that the attention will go to her and not to the original topic. It always happens when she butts in. It is a pattern....she has serious problems.

Don't mean to add fuel but this is typical left wing liberal status. They are all about fellings and good intentions. Facts that don't validate their agend are ignored. The truth be damned if it doesn't fit. They are never wrong. It's real easy to push your agend these days with the internet access we have. There is endless information that can be cherry picked to fit your agenda. The best advice is to let them ramble on. That way they them get their feel good fix. The truth will rise to the top in time. :pleasantry:

Mom and Fuhr, agree with you completely, as tempted as I get I refuse to respond or acknowledge any more.

As far as the OP, good for them! Hope they see a quick return to prosperity. It is a lost lesson on many cities and counties, and mainly on the Feds that a business friendly environment will bring back business and with it jobs.

I love Idaho! I was stationed there for a year and a half and it's just an awesome state!

I started this thread as a celebration of the human will and need to succeed and prosper. This small town is standing against a federal government that has done all it could to render it a ghost town.

My Family were some of the first settlers in Northern Idaho and they all worked in the logging and milling industry. Over the years all of the smaller mills have closed. They did not own the land and relied on federal lands for logging. This was fee and bid logging. The federal and state government received large sums of money form this industry and much of this went to the school districts. It provided good paying jobs for hundreds of families that paid taxes and created additional job growth.

The government, mostly ran by those that have never seen a wild forest, intervened with regulations that shut down logging on federal lands. These lands make up a large part of Idaho. Many citizens of this country have bought into the idea that the 'evil' corporations were raping the land and destroying the environment for profit. These corporations were mostly small "mom & pop" businesses. They farmed the timber lands and understood it was a renewable resource. Profit is what keeps a corporation in business, employing people and expanding the local economy.

The federal government has shut down much of the small businesses that make up the backbone of this country. They now come in with 'stimulus' money borrowed from other countries such as China. At best this stimulus money is like an energy drink. It provides a few short term jobs and fades away.

I'm reasonably sure that Potlatch will soon face many more federal regulations that cripple their road to a firearms based recovery.

Just like any ghost town, good for photography but not for the economy.

I am sorry about your family...I hope Potlatch will have more businesses coming in to bring that town back to normalcy. You know there was a time in Australia when the big businesses were being squashed by the government with high taxes and regulations, businesses started going outward and building outside the cities where it is cheaper. Then the rest follows of course...now there is nowhere in the same land where businesses can hide. The government has to get a slice off the top. It is just a sad merry go round. If the small town of Potlatch will take that into consideration and thinking of the future when their growth started to go up, putting away something for the future as an investment will mean a lot. It is just a matter of going around the regulations legally. In short, don't put all your eggs in one basket.

ern the vid had nothing to do with logging but i stand my ground on my stance about the senseless unnecessary and diabolical deforestation practices going on around the globe displacing and systematically murdering millions and forcing many into slavery and other unhealthy and even deadly situations

but this one touches on the results of destroying rainforests

I actually went to high school in Potlatch. More years ago than I care to think about lol. It was and still is a great town to grow up in. I am glad they are finally getting a replacement industry, when the sawmill closed this little town went from around 5,000 people to 1,000 in just a few years

I enjoyed thoroughly burning brush piles, watching the bull dozer clean the landscaping, and replanting thousands of trees over 3 years working with the Forrest service and ODF in lane county (Eugene, springfield, area). There may be an abundance of hippies in Eugene, but they love cutting their trees.

I can understand that...some of my friends in Western Australia were complaining a year or two ago about their population going south when mining towns after mining towns shut off. There was just no more money to operate them with the high cost of operation going mostly to taxes, employees' compensation, medicare, retirement benefits, etc. A few months ago some mining towns started re-opening and work is plentiful. They can't even find enough workers now and asking help from overseas.

Potlatch Idaho actively seeks firearm and ammunition manufacturers. They lost a sawmill that employed most of the inhabitants and now hope to become a destination for all things firearms.

Here's a perfect example of how it is PRIVATE sector that creates jobs. I just heard on the TV that the Obamanation in the White House has created 4.3 million jobs in the last 27 months. Seriously?? Companies hire people, presidents and congressmen do not. They might make the arena a better environment for businesses to grow, but that's it.

Hear Hear to Idaho and it's vision to help out its state's residents by making it easier to bring business into their state.
