I don't know anything about SKS rifles, but I know I want one.
Can anyone tell me from experience what are the best made one's.
And also what to LOOK OUT FOR when buying one of these.

Thank you.

Shotgun news recent had some articles on the SKS that might help answer your questions. I think you can find them online.

Have you looked at hi point or kel tec carbines? I was interested in an sks too until I found the hi point .45acp carbine. They are dirt cheap, fun to shoot and easy to upgrade

I own a hi point 9mm carbine. Most fun out of a gun I've ever had! I have owned an sis also. I had a full barrel Norinco. Shot it and loved it. Just wanted something else more. Ill grab another Skate when I can. Here in Ok. The clean Sks goes for around $300. Good luck and be safe!

When a guy ask's about an SKS, why are you trying to talk him out of it?

Bottom line, they are fun guns and being what they are, they can be more fun that a new recently manufactured American gun can be.

As far as the SKS, there are better ones than others but to tell you the truth, they all shoot about the same if they don't have a specific problem.

There are milled receivers and ones made out of bent up metal. I have one of both at the moment and they both shoot the same. If I were blind folded I wouldn't be able to tell the difference if I had gloves on.

The milled reciever guns that I have seen, like my Russian version, tend to have nicer wood and finish while the cheaper Chinese versions have crappier wood and lousey finishes, although I have seen the reverse, the former is the norm.

The ones with the Bayonents are a little more desireable but that's up to you, mine both have blade bayonets but there are also spike bayonets available. Sometimes you can buy one with bayo lug still attached and buy the parts to put one on yourself.

What specifically do you want to know besides what I have told you so far?

Did I say they were fun to shoot? Fairly cheap to shoot also.

PS...The one in the above add looks to be a pretty good deal.

I love my SKS. Got it as parts - Yugo 59/66 receiver, Tapco polymer for just about everything else, assembled it myself. They're fairly cheap, very reliable, cheap to shoot, easy on the shoulder, and very customizable.

I still have my "paratrooper" model SKS. Short, handy, nice finish on the stock, and shoots beautifully. The purists out there may not appreciate it, but I much prefer the shorter SKS to the full sized. You can still find the paratrooper version from time to time at gun shows.

I am looking for something fun to shoot, I guess I am getting bored with the AK 74
and I am looking for a little change. I guess I am gonna have to take a road trip to Cabela's tomorrow or Friday. I will let you know how it turns out. There is one not to far from here in Maine.

eagle as

Eagle arms in Breiningsville PA has excellent Yugoslav Sks's with bayonet and complete grenade launcher lug and sight for 249.00. Excellent rifle I have one and it shoots great and is very well made!
