Single stack 9 mm

I am looking for a single stack 9mm for concealed carry, however, it's a toss up between the nano and the shield, the shield fits just a bit better, but the slide safety is setting me back. Does anyone carry the shield with the safety off? Or, does anyone have other suggestions?

I have the shield, but the safety is not an issue for me. I've handled the nano and the shield fits me better as well. I've read where many who carry the shield do so with the safety in the off position, so I don't think its a big deal. I've never heard of any issues doing it that way. My brother has the xds 9, very nice piece, good trigger, feels good in the hand, and lacks a slide safety but does have a grip safety. Between the xds and the shield, I think the S&W is a better value for the money, for me personally anyway, I just don't see how the xds is $115 or so better, unless something like the difference in safety's is really important to you. I've heard good things about kahr pistols too.

I am in the process of researching a single stack 9, and it's down to 3 pistols... Nano, shield, and Kahr cm9. I am pretty sure I'm going with the cm9, but the Shield is a VERY close second, and one I will probably buy in the near future anyway. The reason I am leaning cm9 is for its size and fits in my pockets easier. I have had hands on the Shield and I tested the safety, I'm pretty sure that it would not "accidentally" be flipped on or off, it's a very positive engagement and disengagement.

My current carry gun is an M&P 40c, and the safety that came on this gun is obnoxious... It's a much different safety than the Shield. I still love my 40c, I just hate the safety lol.

Those are goods points, thank you. I have not handled the XDs, but the specs have it 4 oz heavier, I know that's not much, but I am also wanting light. I would also agree with you, it can't be $100+ better. Still considering the leave safety off option.

Someone told me the guide rails on the Kahr cm9 had some issues of wear? Maybe that is simply Kahr envy because they settled for something else.
What does the Kahr cm9 weigh?

15.9 ounces with an unloaded mag... Add a couple ounces for 7 rounds (6+1) of 9mm

I carry safety off. It's bigger M&P cousins have the option to buy without a thumb safety, so I figured I'd be good. No issues at all for me.

I have a Kahr CW 40 that was not consistent when I was shooting it. My shoots were all over the place. I sent it back to Kahr and they replaced the followers. I have not had a chance to take it to the range and try it out yet.

I have the shield in 40 s&w.
I never have the safety on and it has never been a problem. Holster covers the trigger and my finger is off of the trigger untill I am ready to shoot.
I don't use the safety because I also carry a glock. I love both of them! But I want my draw and shoot drill to be consistent. If I have to use it I don't want to have to think.... What gun do I have? And does it have a safety or not?

Hey dan, is that your shield in your avatar? My eyes aint that good anymore...you gotta a bigger pic of that? Looks sweet.

I also carry the Shield. I carry with the safety off with and a round in the chamber. Get a good holster that will protect the trigger and keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot and you should be good to go. I don't like safeties because you can't depend on them. They are a mechanical devise, they can and do fail at times.

My choice for concealed carry is a Colt 9mm New Agent. It uses single-stack 8-round mags plus one in the pipe, the same number as my full size 1911. Makes round counting similar for mag changes. The New Agent has a gutter/trench sight so there's nothing to snag when drawing from under a shirt. However, the sight requires a bit of a learning curve. With 1,700 rounds expended, the gun has been 100% reliable.

I have the XDS 9mm and love it. It may be a bit heavier than the others you listed but lighter means more recoil. I prefer the backstrap safety myself.

Take a look at the Sig P938. http://sigsauer.com/CatalogProductList/pistols-p938.aspx

or Sig P290 RS.

Walther PPS 9mm single stack, 1" thick and very concealable. Has great sights and is extremely accurate. Fits my hand beautifully. Comes with 2 handle backplates for fitting your hand. Has a trigger safety and the good part for me as I am a lefty is the ambidextrous mag release. It is under the trigger guard and you push it down. Comes with 2 mags, a 7+1 and an 8+1. I have put every cheap to expensive brand of ammo thru it without a hiccup........well, it's a Walther, what else would one expect? :)
Problem might be to find one.......if you do, grab it, you can't find any better!

When I carry my 9mm Shield, I carry with the safety off. Functionally, it is no different than my M&P9 which has no safety. If you put the Shield in a pocket or purse, you probably should engage the external safety.

I have being trying my Shield out to put in my rotation it's a Shield 9mm without the safety I pick it up for $333 I couldn't leave it their.
