sights make a big difference?

I recently purchased a springfield xd9c, and love it so far. I have heard many tell of putting brighter sights on, and am wondering if this is worth it. So, did you change your sites? If so, was it worth it? and which sites would you recommend? This is a short, carry pistol.

depends what your target is and what you're shooting at
other than range practice my only reason for firing a gun would be for self defense and in that case i don't think i'll be using the sights on my gun as i would just use the point and shoot method
