SIG SAUER P226 PROBLEMS - Chapter Two

Amsdorf

VDMA VIDEOS
A few months ago I experienced persistent, and consistent, problems while firing the P226 9mm by Sig Sauer.

It would fail to feed from the magazine properly with every magazine load I put through it.

The diagnosis was that it was magazine related, but I was unable to test that theory until recently.

The solution to the problems? Use Mec Gar mags.

But, while shooting it I also discovered that due to my large hands and the way I grip my other semi-autos (1911, HK, FN, Glock, etc.) I was getting my thumb on the top of the slide release on the SIG and therefore the slide failed to lock back while shooting.

I wish SIG put their slide release forward of the decocking lever.

Anyway, here's a video report, I was very pleased with the accuracy of the SIG P226.

Has anyone else had a fail to feed issue with their SIG? What was the solution for you?

I have only put about 250 rounds through my 226 and I have not had any problems. I did however read about the Sig mags and I went and bought 4 mec gar mags before ever going to the range. I have used pmc ammo, federal, hornady critical duty +p and I am about to give Winchester white box a go. With the pmc, federal, and hornandy I never had an issue with Sig mags to date. That does not mean in the future something could pop up.

To be honest I have been waiting for a failure with sig mags, but none yet. This has just been my experience.

Clearly your P226 is defective. I will generously offer to take the defective weapon off your hands for $500 (for parts) so that you're not burdened with it any longer. :-)

Seriously though, I've had my P226 9mm since the late 1980's and had only one (hand-loaded ammunition without a powder charge) failure. Full disclosure, it's only had about 5,000 rounds through it, but I've never had a problem with it or my magazines (factory 15s & 20s, and Mec-Gar 20s). I hope you have as much "faithful service" from your Sig as I have had from mine.

Thanks for the video!
