Sig Sauer P226 cleaning question

Alright, so I just got my first hand gun which is a Sig Sauer P226. I was wondering when I clean my gun which will be better using gun oil or using a gun grease? The cleaning kit I decided to buy apparently has a grease, will that be better or would using normal oil be good? I'm just a little worried of making sure everything is good and the like since a good working gun is a investment and would hate for it not to work when I need it the most

Read the owners manual, Sig is very specific about the lubrication of there firearms. Included in your gun case is a tube of TW-B25 for lubing your slide. I would get a Needle bottle for using whatever oil you are going to use, as this will give you 1 drop at a time. Available from brownells in a 3pk. Hoppes #9 gun oil is the old standby. I have started using Lucas gun oil, It is fully synthetic and has a very nice viscocity. like all Lucas products it is a bit pricey. I like it. I also like #9 oil! They both have there uses. Do not over lube your pistol....a dab will do!

Thank you very much for the replies and the information. Aside from buying a cleaning kit and this being my first gun, its also a used gun so not everything came with it, such as lube in the case or an owners manual but I will be reading through the online one on the Sig Sauer website

Simple rule of thumb - if it slides grease it, if it rotates oil it. Any synthetic wheel bearing grease will get the job done very well. Breakfree CLP is a good cleaner and decent oil/lube. If you conceal carry Link Removed makes a synthetic silicone based grease that's food safe, odorless and won't stain clothing.

As to quality cleaning supplies steer clear of cheap LGS kits with aluminum cleaning rods. Kleenbore and Pro-Shot makes quality cleaning products.
