I'm new to the handgun world and was needing some feedback...I recently bought a uncle mike's horizontal Leo holster rig. Was looking at a bulldog brand rig as well. Went with the um since I used their equipment when I worked at a prison as a guard before I started truckin'. Today I was on the net goffing off and noticed I could have got the bulldog one for half of what I paid for the um....is uncle mike's the better brand or did I not shop around good enough the 1st time?
I don't carry in a shoulder holster, but I have some friends with quite a bit of experience with them. And all of them use one form or another of the
Galco shoulder rigs. Both the Miami rig and the Jackass rigs are their preference. If you want a vertical shoulder holster, they also make the VHS Shoulder rig. Galco holsters are not inexpensive. As with most things, you get what you pay for. I would never consider "cheaping-out" on a holster that could someday play a significant role in keeping me alive.
I hate to denigrate anyone's choice, but I would not own a "one size fits many" holster such as
Link Removed sells. There is a HUGE difference between a Galco holster that costs about $200 and an Uncle Mike's or
Bulldog holster that costs $35 - $70. Like I said, you get what you pay for.
The choice is always yours, but you asked for some feedback. I really don't want to offend you - by the way, welcome to the forums - but if you're going to wear this holster for any length of time, you may just want to save-up for something of higher quality. Long ago, I carried a large revolver in a vertical rig, similar to Galco's VHS rig. But that was long ago and they don't make it anymore.
If you're worried about comfort while wearing your gun and work as a truck driver, I would encourage you to consider a cross-draw holster as well as a shoulder holster. Cross-draw works amazingly well while seated and buckled-in. Just wear your shirt untucked to cover it.
Good luck in your search.
