Should Training Be A Requirement For Carrying Concealed?

I wasn't talking about McDonald or Heller.

This isn't about keeping and/or bearing.

This is about training.
Incorrect. This discussion is about REQUIRING training. And the government requiring training is infringing upon the right to bear arms by limiting the ability to bear arms in a concealed manner to only those who have the government required training.

Oh you think I'm making an argument in favor of required training as a condition to carry.

Let me just straiten that out right now:

...Like you, I also don't like mandating classes as a condition of exercising rights. I support making gun safety/familiarization a part of the high school curriculum along with first aid and driver's ed; a kind of 'life skills' class. This way everyone gets the information, there's no condition in order to carry, and there's no list or registry beyond who has a high school diploma.

I'm talking about EddieEagle in every school, and maybe HS Seniors can get a field trip to a gun range for some hands on. Congress has the authority to make such a law as per Article 1 Section 8.

I really like the idea of training being required for each person to carry. I do not want to limit anyone's Constitutional right to carry, but I do believe that some sort of evidence should be provided to make certain that anyone carrying has at least been exposed to the concept of gun safety.

"I support the 2nd Amendment BUT.....!"

I don't think it should be a requirement for training every time you ad something as a requirement you weaken the second admendment. Although it is good to train not everyone has the money and training is only as good as the trainer. If it was required for everyone to have top notch training not many would ever carry, the cost would be in the thousands for top training.

Required - NO!

As a level of responsible gun carrying I believe training is essential (what ever form that training comes from).

^ I agree with this.
In ma. you have to take a class to apply for your class A permit. the class in no way prepares you enough to be a
responsible 'trained" carrier of a weapon. I've had my permit for a little over a year now but stil rarely carry.
I hit the range every Saturday and have taken a couple of "Conceal Carry" classes at the Mass firearms School.
One to go over and really understand legalities that come with carrying and discharging a firearm
and #2 to train actually drawing and firing my weapon efficiently.
they have a good curriculum there and I intend to take quite a few more "training" classes.
ND's are serious issues, and I'm in Mass. not exactly a gun friendly state, if I ever do have to draw my
weapon and use it ...god forbid, I know I'll immediately be guilty until proven innocent.
That's just how it works here in the bluest of blue states.
but required? I have to say no, but do I think you are not being very responsible if you don't get some training on your own.
Having a CCW does not automatically make you Serpico.
Just like buying a pair of skates does not make you Wayne Gretzky

No.

Unless you're sr9... Then you'd need a complete history lesson with crayons to get your point across!
