I am a physician working for a large healthcare group in my state. I, like many of you, are disarmed at the doors to my hospital and clinic. I am trying to gather data to present for the consideration of a policy change. I do not wish to go unprotected during my day's work, and feel that my patients and their families should not have to either. Please vote honestly in the poll. Thank you.

Are you being disarmed by law? or Hospital policy? If policy.... concealed means concealed!

If the gun is in a locker then it doesn't matter if its near a MRI machine. I agree with you that if its policy then he shouldn't take it cause he could become unemployed

I think LCDR's point was that a person would have to disarm to enter the room where the magnet is, and that it is likely that someone might see.

I agree very much and know the research of the increased probability of attack in gun free zones - that might be something you might want to look at. That being said I have two places I cannot carry - my medical place and my health club. Both involve disrobing and potentially being separated from your firearm - I put up with it because the health club is across the street from my office (and I need the workou) and I like my doctor and the group. Other places I just don't spend my money - ever..... this is for a greater good overall. Still talk with them about it though and hold very strong to my feelings about their $(#$)%*( sign.

Good luck on this - maybe you can push it over the line to MN from WI and get some sense here.....

That is what I meant. There are plenty of situations where an employee would be required to disarm such as diagnostics/treatments with magnetics and operating rooms.

Thanks for commenting... as for pushing over into MN, I've got to wait for my out-of-state Utah CCW permit first :-) Then at least I'll be bringing it over the border. Don't know about changing policy though. From what I've heard lately, MN is seemingly going the way of the progressives, but I'll do what I can.

In NYS they are allowed. But I would not recommend picking a doc based on the second amendment. That's just stupid.

It's illegal in SC as well and I too work in a medical facility. I want this law changed! Even still, our company policy is no weapons allowed. But at least then it would be private citizens exercising their rights rather than the gov't beating them to the punch.

I voted that a legal personnel should be allowed. Not because it is a hospital but that is the way it should be everywhere. No one has anything to fear from my sidearm.

And someone sees him putting the gun away in a locker to be near an operating MRI machine means the unemployment line.

If he works around one that would be a decision he would have to make. But in the end when it's only policy stopping a person, there is a choice to make. Job or Possibly life. Different people go different ways on that one. If people choose to decide that their job is possibly more important than their life that's their choice and doesn't affect me. But me personally, I can get more jobs, can't say that for lives.

Good luck! Mayo health system is a huge fan of dictators. They treat King Abdullah all the time. If it's Sacred Heart, it's bleeding heart. Catholics are by far mostly liberal. Have you considered an EAA .22? You could fit it in a cell phone case. What somebody don't know isn't really their business.

BTW, does your policy cover patients or visitors? I go to Cavs games and sometimes the foul balls get lost in the glaring sun lol

Don't think anyone is recommending that, but all things being equal, my question is whether or not this is a consideration (e.g., one primary care office/clinic is posted and another is not).

I don't believe it's a consideration at all.

I've had a heart attack and several cardiac surgeries since 2008. I drive into the gun ban capital of NY, NYC, for some of the best cardio-electrophysiologists in the world. An entire 16-story building is dedicated to cardiac surgery and post-operative care. State of the art. There are roughly 400 cardiologists, cardio-electrophysiology surgeons and cardio-thoracic surgeons on staff with nearly 15,000 employees. This is some massive cardiac center. I wouldn't consider any other doctors as my life depends on their expertise. So I have to accept the consequences of not being armed in the hospital. Considering it's cardiac surgery I have a greater chance of croaking from bad medical care at another facility than a random attack on the off-chance someone will get through security, come to the CCU and randomly shoot patients. When in my local hospital in Orange County I always have my gun (it's in the hood). Security gives the option to put it in a locker if you don't want to carry it while your visiting people but they don't require it. They're very nice. They lock it up and give you the key to the lock box and a receipt. But the guards usually tell me just conceal it and go visit whoever I'm there to see. They can't be bothered. And this is in crazy NYS!
