Should I Keep It?

I have an M&P 9C with aftermarket sights (Trijicon HD's), the Apex DCAEK and RAM, and a custom grip/trigger guard reduction and stippeling. I have 3 10 round magazines and feel it is a great gun. Since Tuesday, when King Cuomo signed the new law, my 10 round mag's were grandfathered in, but they can only be loaded with 7 rounds. I can no longer purchase other 10 round mags. Here is my question. Does it make sense to keep this as my carry gun (AIWB with no issues) as basically a 7 round double stack, or would it make more sense to look at a 7 round single stack such as a Walther PPS or the new XDS in 9mm coming out (shot a friends xds 45 and didn't enjoy the experience). Looking to stay with 9mm. Not a fan of the external safety on a shield besides the fact that I am a lefty. Keep the 9C as a 7 round double stack or not? Should I worry about the three mags I have ever wearing out without the ability to replace them or am I over reacting?

I'd say if it carries with no issues then carry it 7+1 with one or two extra 7 round magazines. So far FL has not overreacted and the federal ban is still an anti-gunners wet dream, but. were I in NY, they may have just made me a criminal - at my ripe old age. Sad!

I heard all mags above 7 have to be turned into the government or sold within a year. Anyone else heard that?

Lets settle this. If you have 10 round mags already, they are grandfathered in, but you can only load 7 rounds in them. Any mag over 10 rounds has to be sold out of state or turned in within a year. You can only currently purchase mags up to 7 rounds. Are we all clear?

I don't expect that law to stand. Regardless we can't tell you whether you like the gun or not. I have an M&P Shield in 40 cal that works for me but then I'm right-handed and don't care about the manual safety. Single stack, 7+1. If it was me I'd wait it out unless I hated the gun and was looking for an excuse to sell it.

I'd keep the 10 rounders... they're grandfathered in so hang onto them.... I'd also buy 7 rounders for carry purposes... Like others stated, carry one in the pipe and 7 in the mag.... That way they can't try and pull **** on you and say there were more than 7 rounds in the magazines... it's physically impossible with 7 rounders...

Thanks Bill. Hope you are right about the law. Wise advice that is appreciated.

Buzz - Huh? They don't make 7 round mags for my M&P 9C. I got you as far as one in the pipe. Always done that.

Well I decided. Keeping the 9C and just bought the PPS. You can never have enough.

You're already carrying a 13 rd double stack pistol with 10, so what's cutting it down a few more rounds? it's an oversized gun for carrying only 7 rounds, a small single stack 9 would be thinner and more concealable with 7 round magazines, but I guess the pps will work too.

Why would you get rid of a great gun that you've customized? Because your moron of a Gov signed an idiotic law that will most likely be repealed when all the lawsuits start (which they will). Stop doing what most NY'ers do which is just giving in and FIGHT!. Write, Call, Email, Organize and fix your state! Do you think that all the other states with good gun laws are just lucky? FAR from it. Gun grabbing dems are in all of them, Constantly trying to take the rights of gun owners. The difference is people in most other state won't stand for it and have no problem reminding people that they can be removed from office as fast as they got in! The whole my state is different, or it's too far gone attitude doesn't fly.

KEEP your gun....FIGHT to fix your state.

Did you not read my post above that I am keeping it? As far as fighting, I have sent over 200 emails and letters and made over 130 phone calls and intend to keep on doing it. Also went to Albany this past Saturday with thousands of others, and was one of 50 speakers at a county legislature meeting last night. I am doing all I can.

I would keep it and make sure Cuomo does not get re-elected. He thinks he is God... 10 round mags are the lowest that the Government should be able to say is allowable. Ten rounds is not to many rounds, forcing people to go with 7 rounds is ridiculous. Get that guy out of office and get some decent gun laws.

The Government is not a Gestapo that can just make laws and invade your privacy. :big_boss:

I agree, keep it and fight these violations of your rights.

Not correct.

"Starting April 15, 2013, only magazines that contain 7 rounds or less will be sold in New York, including permanently modified magazines. "
.
You have until April 15th to hoard all the ten round magazines you can.
.
"Q: What if I have a magazine that can contain more than ten rounds?
.
A: You can permanently modify the magazine so that it holds no more than ten rounds, responsibly discard it, or sell it to a dealer or an out of state purchaser by January 15, 2014. "

.
You can modify normal capacity magazines down to gimp levels if it is a permanent conversion. They you don't have to send it out of state. Six of one, half dozen of the other..... it still sucks.
