Seriously? Are you really THAT stupid?

Bullet Proof
I had to go to court today to testify in some drug case. I stopped to render aid to some guy that copped a beat down (or got thrown out of a car) called EMS, and went on my merry way. Apparently the guy had enough dope on him to get arrested and go to trial.

I show up to the court house today and find the guy’s name not on the docket. So, I ask around and get told I have to wait until I’m released by the DA’s office. So, I sit around for an hour W/my wife and wait and then I catch some clerk (Turns out she was an ADA) walking out of another court hand her my subpoena and ask “What up?”

She’s decent enough to get on her phone call the office find out that the case has been vacated and as a member of the DA’s office cuts us loose.

Enter my co-worker who was also subpoenaed, He lights into this woman about how our subpoena said nothing about calling to check before coming to court and by GAWD he’s going to lodge a complaint . The ADA is like ‘And?’

All the time I’m thinking ‘You idiot on the short list of people you do not trifle w/ an assistant DA is waaaaay up near the top”

Long story short, I thank the lady and get her name (So that if SWAT kicks down my door tonight I can say ‘She said”) So , the wife and I head on out to Denny’s and as we hit the street we see the concerned citizen on his way to the DA’s office to register his complaint . I could see the fumes coming off this dude from a block away.

Wonder if he’s in jail yet?

PS while we’re walking out DW tells me (in between asking “Do you really work w/ that idiot?”) “Must be this or that happened and that’s why they vacated the case” and I looked at her and said “I don’t care what happened. As long as I get to go home I’m good’ and some lady looks at me and says “Right on! “

Still wonder if homeboy is in jail

Yea tuck tail and run from a public servant. I would have to agree with the other person who went to file a compliant. For them to subpoena me to show up to help them prosecute this person and not to instruct me to call in to check if I am needed. To me is rude and a waist of my time. Time which they will not be paying me for and was missed from work that would have been paying me for my time.

OK but do you light into the public servant that went out of her (very busy) way to help you out?

Do you stomp into the DA's office raising Hell?

The subpoena did have a number on it to call w/ questions it just didn't clearly say call the night before to see if you need to go

Not everything has been considered, when it comes to the ways of bureaucracy. Perhaps, because of this incident, a suggestion will be made to add a line to the subpoena or summons to that effect.

Nothing says you could not check on your own. You need to be pro-active on this stuff, because bureaucracies are too wrapped up in themselves and their continued functioning.

The Boy Scouts said it best. Be prepared.
