This isn't Open Carry as such because most security guards have no option to carry concealed.

I'd bet that he was at THAT location every day, giving the thief ample opportunity to plan his attack.

I know quite a few security companies that require their guards to carry with an empty chamber.

Just in general why not try to OC spray the thief?

Why wasn't the guard at the TOP of the stairs? In a place where there's only one avenue of approach?

Yes, open carry—and, especially, civilian open carry—is an attractive invitation to have an exposed gun stolen. However, that so-called security guard's tactical reaction to a visible gun threat is absolutely PUSSY!

That jerk has no business passing himself off as a security expert. Possession of a handgun means nothing without the necessary prerequisite training across a wide variety of self-defense, grappling, gun-handling, and gun-safety techniques.

Oh, and as for attempting to 'OC' the thief? Only a suicidal jackass would attempt to use such a ridiculous countermeasure. As any police officer could tell you: The presence of a drawn gun in the perp's hand changes everything—Everything! Until the potentially lethal effect of that drawn gun is completely nullified, your life is, quite literally, 'hanging by a Damoclean thread'.

I have never heard of a security company requiring empty chamber carry. Unless they are issuing single action revolvers.
