SC to CA Gun Sale/Trade

I am a SC resident and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if (what the laws are and where they are located) it is illegal for me to purchase/own a gun in SC and give it to a family member as a gift. I would not be going through a FFL. Any help on the legality of this and where I can find these laws would help tremendously.

Your question does not match your thread title. Need more info, the key being is the family member also a resident of SC? If yes, then probably legal without an FFL, will have to look at SC law. If the family member is not a resident of SC, the gun will have to go through an FFL for transfer to the family member, otherwise you will violate 18 USC 922 (a)(3) and (a)(5) which is Federal law.

Has to go through an FFL in California to comply with Federal and California laws.

I think, not sure though, if the gun is a handgun, it must be on California's safe handgun list.
