How do you guys feel about the sawed off shotgun and the laws prohibiting them? And is it worth the felony risk to own one? I say yes.. the zombies will come any day now, and I want that badboy on my back when i run out of bullets. Not to mention its an extremely attractive addition to my collection.

They were made illegal during the Roosevelt era.
The feds, began legislation to make people think they were doing something about the Motor Bandits of the depression days.
FDR's AG tried to outlaw handguns in the GCA. To prevent legal pistols made from long-guns, he included the ban on sawed-off weapons.
The handgun ban failed, but everything else went through.
Of course, the GCA had nothing to do with the destruction of the motor bandits, but we are stuck with the law.

Sawed Off Shotguns
You can get a short scattergun with a legal barrel and avoid the hassle. My 12 bore Mossberg has an 18-1/8" bbl and came with a stock as well as a pistol only grip that was difficult to control with and downright uncomfortable to shoot. Now has M-4 style stock that makes it easier to shoot and still compact enough to use in close quarters.
To the best of my knowledge no firearms are illegal in the US as a whole, Class III firearms/devices require a transfer tax stamp and federal registration. There ARE however numerous second amendment infringing local and state laws, codes and ordinances to trample your civil rights, including that of self defense. SCOTUS has neatly dodged the issue of criminalization of a lawful act due to the perceived sensitivity of location. Much of the confusion comes from the blind stupidity of congress critters whose knee-jerk reactions to an issue result in mindless legislation and the self serving add-ons from sycophants looking to buy votes in their districts swelling bills to 2000 pages of read by none swill passing and becoming laws.
The Gun Control Act gave us our very own US Gestapo which was originally conceived as a tax collecting agency. Another case of your tax dollars at waste.

I like my Mossy 590 just as it is, with the nice, long magazine. If I sawed it off, I'd have to do all kinds of mods to the reduced capacity magazine as well. I might one day put on a collapsible buttstock, but that's the extent.
If it's really important, mount the scattergun in a case along with an electric motor and a 6" cut-off wheel. When the zombies are at your door, flip the switch. It'll take the cut-off wheel a few seconds to get through the barrel and then you'll be free to use it to atomize the undead all you want. Meanwhile, it remains completely legal in a world where federal bureaucrats are the modern nobility.
For a more realistic means to own a "short-barrelled shotgun" in the meantime, buy a Judge.

Well, I feel ALL restrictions on weapons of any sort are EVIL.
The National Firearms Act of 1934 was really an effort to create some (victimless) crime, so a lot of otherwise useless feds wouldn't have to go find honest work. Remember, after increasing alcohol consumption and giving organized crime a HUGE boost, Prohibition ended in 1932. Lots of FedCops running out of crimes, so they needed to invent some.
Ballistically, I don't see much to be gained by cutting a shotgun much under the 18 inch legal limit on barrel length. If you want "short," go test the Taurus Judge revolver and learn that it SUCKS when it comes to penetration. Fortunately for us, the theboxotruth.com already did that test.
In the interest of keeping the ballistics of the 18 inch barrel, but keeping the gun down close to the legal minimum for overall length, I say we bring back the High Standard Model 10B. A bullpup design is fine by me. We'll replace that original C-cell Kel Lite with a modern LED weapons mountable light, extend the magazine to the same length as the barrel, maybe even include a laser sight for the "cool" factor.
But I think a Saiga 12 with a bunch of box magazines might be even better for zombie hunting.... :wink:
