But he said the weapon -- which he said he found lying on the ground wrapped in a T-shirt -- went off by accident when he picked it up, according to KGO.
"Then suddenly I heard that boom boom, three times," Lopez-Sanchez said, according to the station's transcript.

Exuse me but, what? Three times?? It went off by itself??

Howdy,

It happens all the time.

It is well known that California people are always finding handguns wrapped in t-shirts that AD multiple times as soon as they are picked up.

Heck, it happens to myself at lest once a month but fortunately I live in rural Arkansas and the only thing getting struck by the bullets are trees, rocks and an occasional possum. Where's my ex when she could truly be useful?

Paul

Geez, if I found a gun wrapped in a t-shirt sitting on a bench in a public place, I'd be all "I won the lottery".

Until I realize it's probably a crime related gun that I should get rid of.

I wonder how many crimes that gun will be tied to?

From San Francisco killing: Gun belonged to federal agent - CNN.com:

The gun used in the killing of Kate Steinle belonged to a federal agent, a source with knowledge of the investigation said.

If you watch the video linked in the article, you will notice the short slant toward more gun control laws (away from enforcement of existing immigration laws). Well, how did an illegal alien and convicted felon obtain a firearm that belonged to a federal agent?

From Suspect in fatal shooting at San Francisco's Pier 14 allegedly used federal agent's gun | abc7news.com:

ABC7 News has also learned that the suspect allegedly used a gun that belonged to a federal agent. Investigators are now working to determine how Sanchez got the gun. One source tells ABC7 News that the gun may have been stolen from the agent's car.

Right, or the federal agent just left it in a public restroom?

Update
The gun used in the killing of Kate Steinle in San Francisco was stolen from a vehicle belonging to a federal Bureau of Land Management agent, a source familiar with the investigation told CNN's Dan Simon on Wednesday.

The gun was a personal weapon, not an official firearm, the source said. Investigators still are trying to determine how suspect Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez allegedly obtained the weapon, according to the source.

Meanwhile TV news crews robbed in S.F.; cameraman pistol-whipped - SFGate:

News crews from two television stations were robbed of cameras Thursday morning, and a camera operator was pistol-whipped by a man in a ski mask, as they reported on a homicide at Pier 14 in San Francisco.

The mugging — the latest in the Bay Area to target television crews — happened at 6:03 a.m. at the pier along the Embarcadero and was captured in part on the air.

KTVU reporter Cara Liu was reporting live when someone ran up and stole camera equipment belonging to KNTV, which also had a crew on the scene. During the incident, KNTV camera operator Alan Waples was pistol-whipped.

This is a TV crew reporting on the killing of Kate Steinle getting robbed at gunpoint at the same location.

More on the gun from Firearm Used in Killing of San Francisco Woman Was Stolen From BLM Vehicle: Source | KTLA:

The gun used in the killing of a San Francisco woman in a case that gave new political prominence to the issue of illegal immigration was stolen from a vehicle belonging to a federal Bureau of Land Management agent, a source familiar with the investigation said Wednesday.

Kate Steinle was shot to death on July 1 on one of San Francisco’s busiest piers.

Investigators still are trying to determine how Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, the man accused in Steinle’s killing, allegedly obtained the .40-caliber pistol, according to the source.

The Bureau of Land Management said the service weapon was stolen from the officer’s vehicle on June 27.

Lopez-Sanchez told CNN affiliate KGO-TV that he fired the weapon, but it was an accident. He said he’d found the gun wrapped inside a T-shirt before it accidentally went off.

...

The key in this report is that it was a .40-caliber service weapon stolen from a BLM officer’s vehicle.

Howdy,

Kinda strange.

Makes me wonder if maybe the guy was working with the DEA or other Fed agency that's why he had a Fed issue handgun and afterwards the Fed Govt is trying to cya. It would be easy to give the guy a GI handgun and then later "claim" it was stolen.

Just wondering.

The gun was the service weapon of a Federal Bureau of Land Management agent, ..., you know, ..., the guys that harass farmers and miners.

Impossoble. He didn't pass a backround check before picking up the gun, that means he couldn't have fired it.

The gun wasn't registered to him which means it wouldn't have fired while in his hand.

He didn't have a valid CA carry permit, that means he couldn't have picked it up.

Abandoning firearms like that is a crime which means the gun was never there.

Wait a minute.....why are they blaming the criminal for this? It's never the criminal's fault. They are always just a misguided "always such a good boy" person who just needs to be hugged to reform and if someone hadn't forced that evil, nasty gun into their hands this never would have happened.

California ....LARGEST INSANE ASYLUM IN THE WORLD

Interesting that the LA Times published this.

This is just One State - be sure and read the last part.

This is only one State....If this doesn't open eyes, nothing will!

From the L. A. Times.

1. 40% of all workers in L. A. County (L.. A. County has 10.2 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card.

2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

5. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

8 Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

9. 21 radio stations in L. A. are Spanish speaking.

10. in L.A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3.9 million speak Spanish. (There are 10.2 million people in L. A. County.)

(All 10 of the above facts were published in the Los Angeles Times)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare. Over 70% of the United States 'annual population growth (and over 90% of California , Florida , and New York ) results from immigration. 29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

We are fools for letting this continue.

This is only one State...If this doesn't open your eyes nothing will, and you wonder why Nancy Pelosi wants them to become voters!

In case you have never been to land managed by BLM, sometimes you don't have cell service, the nearest person is an hour's drive away, etc. I don't know about you but if I'm in that area I definitely want a firearm with me.

One of my co-workers likes to ride his daul-purpose motorcycle in remote areas of the Ouahita National Forest and usually rides alone. I've suggested to him several times that he needs his CCW permit and a handgun to carry with him on these rides.

He's kinda anti-gun but states that he doesn't own I gun because he is afraid his daughter who's 12yo would hurt herself with it. ( it's just an excuse instead of saying that he's anti-gun. ).

I asked him what would he do if he had a flat tire in the middle of nowhere and Junior, Bubba, and Bubba Jr. decided that he would be an easy target to mess with.

Coworker said he has a tire kit and can fix a flat pretty quick so he wasn't too worried about it.

Well, after Junior, Bubba and Bubba Jr. kicked the crap out of him just for the hell of it i recommended a S/S .38 Special revolver and even took him to the range a couple of times so he could learn the basics.

The usual suspects are already blaming the shooting on "the proliferation of firearms in America" even though it was a stolen LE weapon and had nothing to do at all with proliferation of firearms. Bad part is that a lot of folks will swallow that hook, line and sinker.
