Sanford FLA Police Reports : Trayvon Martin Shooting

Looks like some conflicting information being reported in the media based off the police department reports...take a look and make your own decision.

No witness information in there. We won't know any better until an eyewitness (other than Zimmerman) statement becomes public.

However, even if Martin attacked Zimmerman first, Martin's attack would be considered justified "stand your ground", as Martin was being followed by a larger man in a threatening manner! Plain and simple: Zimmerman escalated beyond reasonable self-defense or "stand your ground" status as soon as he followed Martin to close range.

I participate in Neighborhood Watch, and I am nearly always armed. I have called police to report suspicious activity before, and I have followed suspicious persons before. But *ALWAYS* at distance - and the most I have shot with is a camera. Neighborhood Watch is *NOT* law enforcement. If a suspicious person ever turned to confront me, I would retreat. By following, I would be the one escalating, so I would retreat unless the suspicious person drew a distance-range weapon. (I make sure to stay well out of close-range, even thrown/pepper spray/taser, weapon range.)

This thread is just recirculating the same old information that's already in the other ongoing threads.

One of the last things I heard Zimmerman say on the 911 tape as he's talking to the dispatcher is something like "Oh crap, I wanna get the hell out. I don't know where this kid is." Is it such a stretch to consider that he had lost sight of Trayvon and started back to his truck, and then was jumped from behind by an irate Trayvon who was pissed at being followed in the first place?

I thought GZ was retreating back to his vehicle...do you have evidence saying otherwise?

Unless you were there - YOU DO NOT KNOW whether Zimmerman was in any way threatening Martin. All we know for sure is that Zimmerman followed Martin - which is NOT illegal, and by itself does NOT justify a response of physical violence. And we know Zimmerman was armed, but don't know whether or not he brandished his firearm at all. This is precisely what we're waiting to find out, whether Zimmerman was being a threat.

It dont matter what happens, the news has pushed this so far, that even if the police find him not guilty he will be prolly end up dead himself and nobody arrested for it.

Blah, blah, blah, blah....
This subject is already being covered in no less than 3 other threads.
This is just re-hashing old information.
A moderator should just close this or move it into one of the other threads.

If we accept your interpretation of "stand your ground" then I could attack anyone behind me on the street. Following is not a threat in and of itself. I am pleased that you have never had to fire you gun while on Neighborhood Watch. Most police will never have to discharge their weapon in their career, this does not mean that those that do were wrong.

If you truly are a Neighborhood Watch member, why is it that you seem so anxious to condemn brother watch member? There are no witness reports in this article but there are witness reports reported elsewhere. All the witness reports I have heard of support the Zimmerman story.

I commend you on your policy to retreat. So far the reports seem to support the claim that Zimmerman had lost track of Martin and was returning to the car. If this turns out to be the case then he had abandoned the pursuit. If, on the other hand, Martin jumped Zimmerman while he was returning to the car "stand your ground" is no longer applicable. Laying on the ground with Martin on top beating his head into the concrete the only place Zimmerman had left to retreat would be heaven.

We know that Martin was a 6' athlete while Zimmerman was 5'9". Martin was taller and younger. Being a football player it is reasonable to consider the possibility that Martin was also faster and stronger. I do not understand why you would say Zimmerman was "larger".

So far any reports that were unfavorable to Zimmerman have proved to be contrived. NBC's report stands out as an example where the official report was edited to report lies. Having been caught, NBC is now trying to dig themselves out of the problem they created. Old pictures of Martin were aired to make him look young and innocent. Old pictures of Zimmerman were selected to make him appear in a less than favorable light. Now it appears that Martin's facebook account has been edited to present him in a much better light. With all the twists of truth and outright lies in the press, all designed to make Zimmerman look bad, I for one will not rush to condemn the man.

Whatever the outcome the life of Zimmerman has forever been changed. Of all the things we know, one of the things we know for certain is that Zimmerman was out trying to protect his community.

The Tampa Bay Tribune has reported that Governor Scott has selected an Anti Gun Committee to see if the Stand Your Ground Law should be repealed or not. Everybody that believes in the Second Admendment should call Governor Scotts office and let them know that the Travon Marton case should not set the example because one bad incident does not over rule the ammount of good stuff that the Stand Your Ground Rule does for the law abiding citizens.

phone number please!

Didn'T ANYONE read the bottom Partial Police Report where it said that Zimmerman was treated for a bloody nose and blood on the back of his head?

According to Jessie and Al, those racist cops weren't giving "Brother Trayvon"** CPR, they were strangling him in order to "finish the job". They should know because they weren't there.

**Trayvon Martin officially became "Brother Trayvon" when he could provide Jessie and Al with the level of media exposure befitting men of their stature. He did this by getting himself killed by a non-black. All others need not apply.

Anyone not within 200' of Travon and Zimmerman when the shooting took place, shut up, anyone who thinks the stand your ground law is broken, shut up. Let the law and not mob rule operate.

Anybody interested in calling Governor Scott about his Anti Gun Committee going to look into repealing the Stand Your Ground Law can contact his at 1-850-488-7146. This could get ugly for the Second Admendment and our CCW permitting in Florida.

I have a question? Everyone seems to have forgotten that the Martin kid was trespasing on the private propety of a gated community. He was being followed to make sure he didn't do anything wrong while he was trespassing outside of the fact that he was trespassing. I'm not saying trespassers should be shot but it is reasonable to watch them. If they then attack you and have you down on the ground beating your head against it, you should have a right to defend yourself. The part that makes me angry is if the races in this incident were reversed, it would have blown over by now.

It'll never blow over as long as misinformation is passed and accepted as fact, whether passed by the media or someone named Dave Nowlin in Savannah, TN.

Trayvon Martin was not trespassing. His father's fiance lives in the gated community, and he and his father were invited guests at her home. He went to 7-11 for a snack and a drink during half-time of an NBA game he was watching with his dad. Neither him being there nor his ultimate destination was legitimately "suspicious" at all. The only one that we know for certain can say what he was doing that was suspicious, is George Zimmerman, whose side of the story I am more and more leaning towards believing, but who has yet to speak publicly on the details of what Martin was doing that he considered suspicious beyond what we hear on the call to the Dispatcher.

Please do your due diligence before posting as fact the 100% inaccurate assertion that Martin was trespassing.

I'm not going to comment on this, but it's something I ran across by accident while surfing YouTube for something unrelated. It came up on the "Recommended Videos" list because I've searched for and watched some videos on this case in recent days. Doesn't matter, because the video I landed on isn't what I'm talking about anyway. In the comments section was a post by someone calling themselves "warchick," in which she said she had posted evidence that Trayvon had a FaceBook conversation with a friend in which he disclosed that he was aware of Zimmerman as early as January of this year, and, says "warchick," some kind of harassment or confrontation with him was "premeditated." I wrote a message to warchick asking for a link to that evidence, and she obliged. Here is the link to a posting by her on her blog. There is a screen-capture of what appears to be an excerpt from a FaceBook discussion posted there. I am not posting the pic for a couple of reasons, one, it has some profanity in it and, two, I have no idea if it's real or not. As to the latter point, there is a busy comments section at the bottom of the posting where warchick, among others, attempts to explain why they think its legimate in response to others who identify what seems to me to be valid concerns about possible problems with the image. I am posting the link here simply to let y'all decide for yourselves if it's worth considering. I would venture to say that, real or faked, it is likely in the hands of experts scrutinizing it for the Sanford PD and other agencies investigating the incident, as well as for the Zimmerman and Martin legal teams.

I found it interesting. Take it with however many grains of salt you think it deserves.

Blues

ETA: I had to delete the first version of this post because it had the image picture that I decided not to post because of profanity etc. attached to it. I couldn't figure out how to edit out the attachment, so I just deleted the post and pasted the same text back in here. Thanks for the couple of "Likes" I got. If you want to "re-Like" have at it. If not, no biggie. :-)
