safe passage law

I have to travel through Illinois this month and I plan on carrying since I have CCW/CHL reciprocity the rest of the trip and I will definitely be carrying at my destination.

My question is do the magazines have to be unloaded?

I plan to drive a SUV I bought a cable lockbox and another lockable container for the mags/ammo. Obviously I will put the lockboxs as far away from rge drivers seat as I can.

The magazines are not required to be unloaded in Illinois. There is no requirement to lock the ammo up separate from the gun. The requirement is to separate the ammo from the occupants of the vehicle, but not from the gun, just not loaded in the gun.

Ammo out of gun, locked up in the safe away from the rest of the car / occupants.

Fill up before you enter, stop when you leave.
Don't stop there except to go to the bathroom. Don't fill up with gas or buy anything. Not one thin dimes worth.
Sorry, I hate that place....

Couldn't resist.

I do my best not to buy anything in IL for multiple reasons. I am a truck driver and IL is anti truck, but pro train.

My advice, for what it's worth

Set up to comply with federal firearms transport regulations, stop at a gas station just outside the state to top off gas, piss, eat, etc., then drive straight through and don't stop until that shithole state is behind you

I travel through Illinois a few times a year to visit my wife’s family in Kentucky. I’m only there for a hundred miles so I don’t stop or speed. It’s a gamble but I don’t lock and unload my firearm. Hopefully I won’t get pulled over.

We have to pass by Illinois going to and coming back from Tennessee. We filled up before we reached Illinois and make sure we do not spend any money on them. Guns are at the back in a safe place with ammo outside in one of our bags. Breakfast at Kentucky...doesn't matter where.

My Dad lives in Il...unfortunately...I may or may not have carried there, don't really care what they think but I would rather take the risk than take a risk with all the tweakers that live in his town, wish I could convince him to move, but his GF is a freak and can't seem to get comfortable leaving that town, so he likely never will.
