Since my son started riding, I've had an incentive to actually get the barn organized and cleaned up a bit. Finally found a cheap enough saddle rack that I could get it... I'm not fond of my current storage method... either on a box in the basement (not good for the saddles since it's the wrong shape) or locked up in the trailer that gets really hot (don't want to bake my saddles). However, now I've got another problem: obviously, saddles should be kept in the barn, but I have no way to lock them up. I'm not terribly worried about theft in this area, but you never know, and I can't exactly afford to replace them. I actually got handed down some fairly expensive saddles, though they wouldn't sell for much now. Very well used...
I found this: Link Removed I figure I can attach that to the barn, and lock each saddle to the cable. I'd prefer separate cables for each saddle, but I can't find any as thick. (Except for a 4' cable... both too long and too short.) So either pretty thick and fairly difficult to cut through, but if you do you get everything, or cut through three separate yet easier things.
I could also attempt to lock this into an empty chicken coop, but as I could likely remove the entire door by tugging on it gently, I'm not sure how well that would work. The structure isn't that sturdy so repairing it won't help a lot.
Which would you pick? I may just say screw it and leave them all in the basement... It's just carrying a saddle and bridle upstairs, then downstairs, and then having nowhere to put them is so inconvenient I'd really like to find a way to make this work! We were planning to build a tack room type thing that could be locked up, but we never got around to it and I can't do it by myself.
