SAA for everyday carry?

Ringo

A WATCHMAN
I was raised with SAA revolvers since I was 10 years old, it's still my favorite handgun and favorite to carry. I have two SAA revolvers, a Ruger New Vaquero 4-5/8 inch in .38 spl/.357, and a very old mint condition Vaquero 7-1/2 inch in .44spl./magnum. The .44 is my favorite and I've been carrying it the majority of the time, only trouble is barrel length. I solved the problem today by leaving it with my local gunsmith to shorten the barrel to 4-5/8 and re-crown. Can't wait to get it back, it's got to be sweet. I know there are those who like to criticize my choice of SAA for carry/self defense, so let me assure everyone that I'm very confident, accustomed, and experienced with my choice. Curious as to if I'm the only one here to favor the SAA?

The gun that you should carry is the one that you have trained with, are confident with, and are accurate with. If anyone condemns you for your choice of carry, it is he that is the fool. Let us know how the new recoil feels after shortening that barrel. I, for one, am interested in hearing back.

I know a man who carries a bird's head gripped 3.5 inch barrel 44 SAA...shoots 44Specials.... While he can't 'empty' his weapon as quickly as a double action revolver or semi auto, he'll hit everything he shoots at, and can send follow-up shots faster than most shooters would believe. By the way, he carries IWB at 4 oclock or so (usually)...he also has a seat holster for in car carry...

That case hardened frame with deep blued barrel and cylinder and big bore hole at the end of the barrel is awesome looking....

A Ruger Single-Six would be my absolute favorite carry, but it's not possible in a hot climate. If there was a way, I'd do it, but all I can comfortably carry all day is either a snubbie or compact auto.

My BUG is a single-action NAA Mini... if that counts? Ringo, if you're confident in your abilities with a SAA... that's all that matters. Let us know about the test fire with the new barrel.

I too love the Single Action. My current carry gun is the 3.5" Ruger New Vaquero "Sheriff's Model" in .44 Spl. Also have an older Vaquero 4 5/8 " .44 Mag. and the recoil isn't too bad though I use more Spl. ammo now in my retirement. Best of luck.

This is the "old" Vaquero with the 7-1/2 inch barrel. I will test fire a magnum round when I get it back just to compare recoil in different barrel lengths. However, my carry load will always be .44 spl.-240gr. HP thereafter.

I'm all about people carrying what THEY like, and not what's "cool". Last time I checked the ol' gunslingers had no issues getting them our and hitting what they were shooting at in a hurry!

SAA revolvers are extremely accurate, they are also "natural' Point Shooters where timing ("in a hurry") and short distances of personal protection are vital.

Well, it's your funeral. Let us know where to send flowers.

Wow! I've seen a lot of pompous and arrogant statements with absolutely no mention of why they said what they said or where they are coming from, but I have to say Amsdorf, you take the cake in this category. To also do what you did in one of the largest fonts I've ever seen on this forum and in bright red. Real class, NOT!

Now tell us, after you make a statement like that, why would anyone on this forum take anything you say (or show in a video) seriously?

Too bad there isn't a "dislike" button next to people's statements. You would have many right now.

Hey, if you want to play cowboy against the bad guys coming at you these days armed with semi-autos with high cap magazines, be my guest.

Happy trails.

Many people carry 1911, which can easily be considered an outdated and inferior platform, will a bad be injured less by a bullet from an saa clone? And have you seen jerry miculek fire a single action revolver? They can skillfully be fired as just about as fast as a semi auto.

High capacity magazines are good if you plan to "miss a lot" pal. If you want to play Rambo be my quest, we can always add "Imagination Inflation" to your ignorance and lack of experience. Happy Hollywood.

You guys crack me up. It is so obvious that the people defending carrying a SAA pistol for self-defense have ZERO real world experience with CQB and what it means to face down a threat in a real gun fight.

But hey, it's a free country, feel free to play Mr. Cowboy, just don't say you weren't warned when the moment of crisis comes and all you are running with is a six shot SAA revolver.

If they are so great, as you guys claim, I'm sure the military and law enforcement would still be using them...oh, wait...sorry, I don't want to confuse any FUDDS with facts.

LOL.

Hate to break it to you pal, but the post is "SAA for everyday carry?", nothing to do with military or law enforcement. You crack me up too, it's more than obvious that you have ZERO real world experience & knowledge when it comes to the SAA revolver or what it means to face down a threat in a real gun fight. And for your information, I carry as many as 30 extra rounds of ammo with my six shot SAA revolver, but hey, it's a free country like you say, so feel free to continue with your Hollywood mentality & ignorance. :drag:

You go right ahead and use your SAA in a life threatening situation where your technique goes to crap, where your aiming goes to crap and where then you have to use fine motor skills to reload your wheel gun.

If they are such great defensive weapons I'm sure every law enforcement agency and military unit would still be using them.

The 1890s are calling...

LOL

There must be some prior bad blood here I'm not privy to, so I'll refrain from saying what I was going to, and bow-out with nothing concrete to add to the discussion.

LOL
I don't have a technique to go to crap, and unlike yourself I only need to shoot one round at a time per target because my aiming is never crap. And it doesn't take any fine motor skills to reload, if you had the slightest bit of experience you'd know that. All your BS here simply proves that you know nothing about SAA revolvers except what you've seen in the movies. And just because you're so ignorant I'll tell you again that this thread is "SAA for everyday carry?", nothing relating to any law enforcement agency or military unit.
