SA XDS 9mm NRA Gun of Year

I've carried .45's of various makes & models, and the XDS, IMHO, is the best of them all for concealed carry. It has single hole accuracy, and as an older gent in my 60's with medium build, it is certainly not a bear to shoot, compared to some of the mini 9mm's out there, and I have shot a number of them. I carry it crossdraw, either IWB or between belt & pants, in a DeSantic holster that also has a spare magazine built in ( I did add a sweat shield that makes it much more comfortable to wear in this ridiculous southwest weather we are having! It literally disappears under any untucked t-shirt & easy to put on & take off. Even with a weak hand grip or regular off hand shooting, the XDS .45 performs flawlessly. I have lasers on my other guns, but this one shoots so well that I opted to forego this addition - you simply don't need it (for accuracy). I agree with the review that there is no advantage of trading the .45 to go with the 9mm XDS just for another few rounds in the magazine when you have an additional 7 rounds at the ready if needed. Just my 2 cents worth, but I'd wager that most anyone would be impressed by this little powerhouse if they are lucky enough to get a chance to try it - if you can find it available!

I carried the CM9 fitted with a CTC laser before I gifted it to my daughter and I really liked it as well. However, I find the XDS .45 is ALMOST the same size & weight, but with a bullet I am much more confident with for stopping power. That said, I would not hesitate to carry either on a regular basis.

I agree with the article. To me, all the XDs seem heavy, and I wonder why they are so popular. I'm saving up for a S&W M&P Shield, myself. The Kahr CM9 or CM40 are nice choices, too, for a small pistol, and they are more affordable than the XD or the Shield.

My XD-S .45acp also won the NRA handgun of the year, last year. Buy what fits and works for you. I love mine!

No, I won't get the 9mm for all the reasons given in the article. Mainly weight, and there are plenty of lighter platforms with better round count.

There are better 9mm handguns as well.

I got the XD-S .45 as it was slim, and used my favorite round. It rests comfortably OWB or IWB. A self defense pistol that works for me.

But a 9mm on the exact same frame, with a barrel that weighs as much as a cannon? No thanks!

The guns look great. I get the weight issues. I also have issues with their being made in Croatia. I like buying American made first.
