S&W Shield

I located a dealer here in Iowa that has a significant stock of Shield .40's. They want $550 for them. I want one but is the gun really worth such a premium, demand withstanding? Did S&W underprice these guns to begin with?

I have a 9mm shield and it is an awesome carry gun. I recently purchased a Springfield Armory XDS (.45ACP) and now carry it over the shield.

I think the shield was priced right at $450 msrp. I think the $550 price you mention is too high. Is the $100 premium for "get it now" worth it?

Is it worth $550? The gun is solid, comfortable to shoot, comfortable to carry, and high quality. The question is what other guns for that price are a available?

IMHO, I'd keep shopping for the Shield @ < $450 or consider the XDS @ the ~$550 price.

I'm in Iowa and contacted a dealer in Florida on Friday 1-11-13 and they had quite a few. I purchased the 40cal and they are shipping it to my FFL! I paid $449 for the gun and $10 for the shipping. No tax because I'm out of state, awesome. Anyway here is their info:

I talked to Joe!

They have like 6 or 7 stores so if their out which I'm sure their not you can call another store. I called them last Monday and they said the had plenty and the. I called back Friday and was told they still had quite a few. Good luck. It was an easy process, don't pay $550 if you can wait a week you can get it for $459 shipped.

Hope this helps!

I wouldn't pay $550. I paid $400 for my shield 9. The only way to stop them form charging too much is by not buying from them.

I paid $403, tax free at the BX at Robins AFB, GA. I think the $550 is a ripoff, be patient, took me 6 months to find one. Awesome gun though, if you haven't I'd research pros and cons of the .40. I went with the 9mm and love it. It's my daily carry gun.

Probably why they have several in stock. All around my area they are between$400-$450 and out of stock. You have to catch the dealers at the right time to get one.

40's had mag drop problems with the 7 rounders. But Smith has reports that it recognized and fixed the problem. They are also repairing models that have the problems already sold.

Everybody here is right on. I shoot with several guys in our shooting club who have the S&W Shield and none of them paid more than $425. They are trying to get extra cash from you based on popularity, take your business elsewhere. Good luck

MSRP is $449.... To get it lower, awesome. But expect to pay at least MSRP. It's one of the hottest guns on the market right now. Personally I wouldn't wait 6-12 months to save $50-$100. I would pay $550 at a small mom and pop LGS, for the simple fact that yes I'm paying to much but it's to a small business not a huge corp.

Even with my FFL fee and shipping I paid less than $500 and I am happy with that. Guns aren't going to drop in price anytime soon. If anything they'll get more expensive and more rare.

The shield is scarce in my area and I now have one. In fact bought ammo today at gander and they want to see it when it comes in that's how rare they are here.

I think this gun should have been at a price point more like the XDs but S&W new they didn't want to compete. Which is why my local gander mountain has 3 XDs's sitting in their case and no Shields!

Not to mention I'd pay more than MSRP because its American Made! That means a lot to me.

Turns out this Iowa retailer is only selling them on GunBroker.com and not at retail. I looked this morning and they are going for better than $600. Another auction site has them for over $700. This is ridiculous! I checked with the Florida dealer mentioned earlier in this thread and they are all sold out. Who has this gun that I can buy for under $500?
