S & w or ruger in the 357

If you're willing to buy used, a pre-lock S&W. I've got three, a 3" Model 65, a 3 1/2" Model 27-2 and a 6" Model 27-2.

Otherwise, a Ruger or a Dan Wesson.

I would NEVER buy a S&W with the internal lock.

Same here. I would never buy one of the new S&W's with the "Hillary Hole"

I have S&W PC and Pro Model 627, a Colt Python, a Ruger GP100, Ruger LCR and Taurus 605...with a Colt Python 8" coming in soon.

Hard to beat Ruger for the price and durability. Trigger action is less stiff than a smith.

If you have the funds, it's hard not to get a Ruger.

S&W Model 19..... Best carry revolver I have ever owned. Either in the 4" or 2-1/2". Shoots anything you can feed it from 38 special, +P's, and full throttle 357's. My 4" is worn but has never been abused and I would never sell or trade it. They can be a bit on the high side price wise but there are still gun deals out there you just have to look for them.

Agreed there. I have the 4" Model 66 in Stainless and love it.

Ruger SP 101 357 3" barrel for me, I like S&W, to expensive for me and I think Ruger is just as good. Go with what feels better in your hand.

I love my Ruger...but the big thing is that whenever purchasing a firearm (whatever type and brand) you need to be comfortable with what you purchase. Make your purchase based off of what feels best for you...try to find some one or place that will let you shoot the guns you are considering... if you can't then go by how you feel when you hold it, the ease of reloading it, does the grip feel good in your hand... Your post was started in May, have you made your purchase yet...What did you decide?

I'm a big believer in the Ruger way of building revolvers. From the Sp101 to the GP100 they are very strong and will stand up to full power .357 loads longer than most shooters will.

My vote is for the S&W, 686+, 7 shot, .357 mag. revolver w/ 6" barrel, and here's why...

If I were born 130 years earlier, had what's pictured below, lived in Kansas, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, you wouldn't be hearing of Billy the Kid, Wyatt Earp, Bill Harden, Bat Masterson, Wild Bill Hickok, Buffalo Bill, etc. in dime western novels or the History Channel. All western history would be centered around Wild Dennis1209 and his awesome marksmanship abilities.

You would be reading how the bad guy got the drop on Wild Dennis1209 after he expended his 6th shot in his revolver and by magic somehow managed to dispatched the BG.

After all... Who ever heard of Sturm Ruger back in the 1880's?

The old cattle towns may have never heard of CT laser sights but, when they saw the "little red dot" they would learn the fireworks were about to begin. LOL...

Yep! Had I been born 130 years or so earlier and today you Goggled King of the Cowboys, Little Sure Shot, Western Legends, Old West Exhibition Shooters, The Shootist, etc., you guessed it... Wild Dennis1209. Ha ha ha ha...

It's 108 degrees right now. I think the heat must be getting to me?

K frames are however not good for shooting hot .357 loads with light bullets. The forcing cone tends to crack. It seems not to be an issue with 158gr. and similar bullets.

A great choice, the GP100 is pleasant to shoot with any ammo and extremely accurate plus it is built to last a life time.

I have never had any issues with any loads I have put through my 19. I know that some Rugers (early ones) have issues with the machining on the breach face that allows the rim of the cartridge to hang up if the revolver is pointed upwards while being cocked or shot double action. I believe they have fixed that issue. I have heard about issues with every firearm out there, even throwing a rock can have its issues.

Both of my S&W's are keepers for life.

those grips are so awesome, what are they? You essentially have what I want, a full size and a smaller one for carry. The only difference is I was looking at a 640 for my smaller one, not sure the difference in that and the M60 you have shown there. The 686 is what I want for the full, but I want the plus. If not that, then a model 327 8 shot but I can't find one. Leaning towards a 4 inch barrel for my full size but not toally ruling out 5" or 6" yet.

Thanks clem. The grips are Badger Oversize Finger Groove in Silver Black. The 686 is the Plus (7 round).
