S&W 40 Shield

I was looking at the S&W Shield 40, needed to pick someone's brain (other than the gun seller)....noticed the rather small barrel, is it compact or subcompact? How is the recoil vs a Glock 23? Is it better than a Beretta PX4 Storm?

I can't speak for the shield, but I own and carry a Walther PPS 9mm. I looked and almost bought the .40, but after shooting and looking at the new capable Hornady and others ammo. I use Critical Duty 9mm+p, and rapid shots on center mass. I chose the 9mm over the .40. I like the light carry IWB and carry more mags (7,8 rnd). Less extra weight. For my small hands the PPS & Shield seem to fit great. S&W builds the Walther and I'm thinking of getting a Shield some day. I have a wheel gun that I'm trying to get first.

As a matter of fact, the Shield is a pocket pistol, that is, for its single stack magazine. The recoil is something you'll have to try by yourself, as everybodys grip is different and so is the felt recoil. Pocket guns, sub compacts and compacts are not comparable, as each was designed with different use in mind. Glock 23 is a compact, PX Storm coul be a compact or sub compact, as they sell both. If you compare the dize of a sub compact with a pocket pistol, the sub compact will look huge.
