Rural Nevada victim disarmament in Safeway!

Locals tell me this is a new sign here in Hawthorne, Nevada. The sign is on all the doors at Safeway. I was pretty shocked by it particularly since this is the ONLY grocery store for 60 miles to the North or 100 miles to the South.

yea well if they get robbed a few times it might make them change their signs
like a robber is going to obey that sign smmfh

It's not a legal sign per defination. I would ignore it.
If you check it out you will find that anti-firearm signs have requirements.

No firearms signs at stores have no weight of law in NV. All they can do is ask you to leave and if you don't it's trespassing. Still I would complain to management. Hell, do it OC just for kicks.

This is my local store. I heard it was put up because one looney old guy likes to open carry a big stainless revolver everywhere.
And yes it carries no legal weight. No criminal will obey that sign.

This is my local store as well. I was told that they are under Northern California so they have to follow their rules. I just ignore it

Carry a subcompact. Carry it concealed. Go about your business. Short of being frisked, no one knows it's there. If asked to leave... leave.

In Nevada that is just a request, you don't have to honor it. If they discover you are carrying all they can do is ask you to leave. If you refuse then it is tresspass. It is not a gun violation.

I carry my gun all day every day. I goto bed and my gun is in a bed side holster. I wake up, I put on my clothes, I put on my gun or guns (Depending on where I am going that day), I go to the places I need to go. The only places I do not carry is where Missouri law says NO ONE can carry. I pay no attention to stores or the signs. All they can do is ask me to leave if they find out. If I refuse and the law is called then it is a trespassing ticket. With what is going on now, you will never catch me without my trusty sidearm on me.

To each of you who says to simply carry concealed or ignore the sign until asked to leave... Would you take it that lightly if the Safeway publicly asked you to surrender your other Rights as spelled out in our Bill of Rights?

"Free speech not allowed in this store." (First Amendment)
"Entering here requires forfeiture of your Right to resist unwarranted searches." (Fourth Amendment)
"Patrons may be forced to testify against themselves." (Fifth Amendment)
"Enter here and you are no longer entitled to a trial by jury." (Sixth Amendment)
"Shoplifters will be assigned a $1,000,000,000 bail. No exceptions." (Eighth Amendment)

and a 'big stainless revolver' is covered under our Second Amendment.

I wonder how many consider, when seeing these victim disarmament signs, that at least one in 16 cars in the parking lot has an unattended handgun inside. Lets face it. Just because we cannot carry inside the store doesn't mean we leave home unarmed...

Victim Disarmament Zones create great locations for criminals to steal guns from vehicles.

Exactly right.

Safeway is basically a transplanted California store, so one can imagine the "logic" behind the signs. (Hint: It's California.)

I live in Nevada (Vegas) and see "no guns" signs all the time, and recognize that they carry no legal authority other than posted above. However, I'm the kind of guy who carries "low profile". In other words, I'm carrying all the time but don't advertise it. If I lived in the OP's area, I'd just keep on shopping without making a big deal out of the fact that all the store owner can do is ask me to leave.

Too often, some folks feel the need to "prove" that they're right. I know I am and prefer to let sleeping dogs lie...especially when it's my only grocery store. (Smiling)

Twoclones I get your point. I do. I never willingly give up rights. However this is our only source of groceries within 100 miles. So I carry concealed.
My choice. I am still armed
Society today is too jumpy to provoke by open carry in my opinion. But to each his own. I don't knock it but I don't choose to do it.

I don't blame you for that at all. Just seems that Safeway is taking advantage of their monopoly. That tactic sometimes results in the breaking of a monopoly which, here in Hawthorne, is more likely to mean the formation of a food co-op rather than the opening of a new grocery store.

Interesting thought about society being too jumpy... I carry concealed more often than open but have never had a bad reaction when carrying open. Especially not in Starbucks ;)

The Walmart on Glendale on Reno will call the cops on open carry. Costco will call and report a man with a gun which results in guess what.....

Unfortunately this is not correct. The rights listed above are between you and the government, not you and another private person or entity. You have no right to free speech or to bear arms on private property, whether individually owned or owned by a business. I can ask you to leave for any reason. You cannot go to the local mall, get up on a soapbox and start talking to the public about anything. That mall is a privately owned entity, it is not a public place. You can be arrested if you refuse to cease and desist. It's criminal trespass. Should a store ask, the best bet is to stay quiet, turn around and leave. While your revolver is covered by the second amendment, that amendment doesn't apply on private property. The csecond amendment is purely to keep your government from enacting a law to disarm you. There is significant case law on this, including recent supreme court decisions in both Heller and McDonald. In some states the right to keep the gun in your vehicle on private property was upheld but the right to carry was not. In fact, the ninth federal district ourt ruled in 2011 that denying the right to carry a gun in public does not violate the second amendment as it is not barring the right to own a gun. People may not agree with this but it is the law. Consider your house. You don't have to allow an armed person to enter. You can ask them to leave. You can use force to make them leave. You can charge them with a crime if they refuse.
