RugerLC9 REVIEW

What do you think about this firearm?

I really like mine. I agree that it does have a long trigger pull, but it is easy to get used to that. It is very small, light weight, and easily concealable, but still 9mm. The thumb safety was also very important to me because I'm used to my 1911.

It has a bit more kick than I was expecting, but that's not really a problem. My only complaint thus far is the take-down pin. I wish that it didn't need apparatus to push it out. As I take it down more, though, I'm finding that it may come out with just a little jiggling.

I shot the LCP, LC9, and a few other compacts/pockets. I did like the fact I could get my pinky finger on the grip(mag extension) as opposed to the .380's shot were too small for the full hand grip. If that's important to you, try S&W Shield available in 9mm or .40S&W. I liked the trigger much better in the S&W, compact, but it's not a pocket gun by any means.

I really like my LC9, but share the opinion of the take down pin removal. Being so light it does have some snap. I installed a 20# Galloway recoil spring which helped recoil immensely (put a 12# on my LCP with good results as well).

I've had mine for almost a year now and I love it, carry it everyday, shoot it once a month. I agree about the trigger pull but I've gotten use to that. One thing I noticed is that u can't dry fire it without a empty mag in it. Not really big on that. This is my first ruger, is that normal for them?

I bought the LC9 a few months ago to carry, it carries nicely and comfortably . It's a snappy little pistol. Yeh , the trigger pull a bit much but as others have mentioned and you do get used to it. I'm not as accurate with the LC9 as I am with the larger pistols I have but I can still maintain a six to eight inch grouping. Probably wouldn't win any marksmanship awards with it but if I had to pull it to defend myself or someone else I would have the utmost confidence in its reliability and my aim.

My opinion echoes the rest here. The long trigger takes getting used to, but has a nice clean break to it. I can usually get my takedown pin to pop out with just some jiggling, but occasionally I'll need to poke the tip of my pocket knife in there to get it started. I'm not really bothered by recoil on pretty much anything, though my wife and father in law both commented on it. I just didn't notice it that much. I got annoyed at how the blueing was getting scratched on the outer part of the chamber, so I took some sandpaper and a polishing wheel to it until I could see myself in it. I still get a small mark from the slide on the very top part, but it's much less noticeable now. I did have my rear sight come loose at one point. Not a big deal, just cranked the set screw down again.

gwjohn82, the LC9, like many guns being made these days, has a "feature" that makes it impossible to fire without a magazine in the gun. Not just pistols either. I'm pretty sure my wife's Marlin is the same way.

I bought a new LC9 and after firing 50 rounds through it I took it apart and the plastic frame rails were already starting to splinter and crack. I got rid of it and got an all metal gun. No more plastic guns for me.

The trigger you get used to, the only problem I had is switch from the LC9 to my XD in the same trip to the range. My first few shoots with my XD after shooting the LC9 were very wild shots, just too much of a difference between the two triggers.

I can mirror most of what everyone else is saying. The trigger pull is long but not stiff so it's easy to get used to. Recoil is less than what you would think for a gun its size. It's small enough to fit in a decent sized pocket but big enough to carry IWB and feel like you have something worth carrying. With the pinky extension my hand fits nicely and I have just enough to hold on to comfortably.

I put a Hogue grip on mine which gives a little more to hold on to and helps with recoil a little.

I bought a cheap $10 IWB leather/pleather one from Cheaper Than Dirt that I wear at 4 to 5 o'clock FBI cant. I've been looking to upgrade, but I can't seem to make myself spend the money. That Nate Suared one looks pretty great, though. I like that it is designed to prevent the weapon from digging into my love handles!

I have a Desantis pocket holster and Smart Carry IWB. It is sized just right that it's easy to carry either way, although you do need a decent sized pocket.
