Ruger SR40c and ammo.

Does anybody own the Ruger SR40c? What ammo works best in the gun? I've tried Federal ammo which doesn't seem to cycle very well. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I don't own the SR40c. But I've encountered similar problems before. If it's brand new it may just need breaking in.

Using my cheapest thing first method.
Clean, lube and inspect it really well to make sure nothing is broken or out of sorts. Then lock the slide back and leave it for a few days. Now the fun part, take it out and shoot the h*ll out of it. I'd shoot a good 200 rounds or so before I'd trust it.

You could also take a look at the bullet profile of the target ammo it functions best with and choose a personal protection round with a similar profile.

If the cheap methods fail it may be gunsmith time. Good luck and sorry for the long post.

Yes. So far, I have had good luck with the el cheapo Winchester white box ammo. Also have an SR9c and that thing eats anything I put through it.

BRBruce is correct in saying that some pistols need a "break in" period. The SR series Rugers definitely fall in that category. While neither of my SR's have had any problems so far, you just might need to run a few more rounds through it.

If you are not getting the information you need here, try the Ruger forum. There is a lot of great information there and some very helpful individuals.

Welcome, and good luck.

I have the SR 9, and also the SR 40 even though I handload I have run several boxes of ammo through them just to get some more brass , mostly the white box of winchester, and so far have had no problems with anything I have used

Not sure about the SR40c,but I have a SR9c,and it will take what ever I feed it so far. I do agree some firearms take a few rounds to break them in. When I bought my SR9c home. I opened the slide up,looked down the barrel "checkng for grease etc..." and then, went out back and put 50 rounds thru it. That was abot 500 rounds ago,I have never had a jam or any other problem with it.I dont see any reason the SR40c would be and diffrent.

One problem I have encountered with new guns is that they are gooey and dirty, and the first time at the range the results are not desirable. I have since learned that all new guns get a tear down, cleaning and lube with some good quality gun oil and Frog Lube on all the moving points (slide/frame). The other issue is that semi-auto's can be finicky when new and won't eat some ammo. You'll find that after a couple hundred rounds through the gun it will change its eating habits.

I have about 200 rounds through mine, and no issues. WWB, federal, and one box of Tulammo. Went through them all just fine.
