If you own a Mini 14, have you used it for hunting?

I have the original 180 series Mini-14 and it is a fun piece to shoot but I have never used it for hunting. It is my number 1 for the upcoming zombie apocalypse.

The Mini-14 is a great gun! Too small of caliber to use for hunting in most states with game, so check your hunting regs first. IMO - The .223 is good for varmints, medium size game like wild cats and hogs, but too light for Mule Deer, White Tail, Elk, Moose...etc.

Before I traded mine off, I used it for deer hunting. With proper ammo selection, it took down Oklahoma whitetail easily enough. I wouldn't have a problem going back to one for here.

.223 is a small caliber for big game. Marginal for deer. Pick your shots carefully. that said, the Mini is also in 7.62x39 which should be a good deer cartridge. I think it was also manufactured in 6.8 for a short time.

I really like my Mini and will be purchasing one of the accuracy enhancing devices for it!
