While the LCP makes a great back up gun, I certainly wouldn't carry it as my primary. I had an interesting experience at the range yesterday. A buddy and I were shooting water jugs. I know, not the same as ballistic gelatin, but eye opening just the same. I shot the LCP with 90 gr Speer Gold Dots. I shot my Glock 19 with Speer Gold Dots 124 +. My buddy shot various brands of .40 cal. My 9mm Gold Dots had similar impact and penetration as the .40s, and expanded larger than the .40s. The .380, on the otherhand, bearly got through the first jug and though the Gold Dot expanded as designed, it was significantly smaller in diameter than the 9mm and the .40s. I found my experience sobering and walked away feeling that the .380 round is too impotent. With that said, I still think the LCP is a great back up gun and I will continue to carry it in my back pocket with my G19 on my hip. However, I personally consider it foolish to carry the LCP alone as my primary defense weapon. I don't have any problem at all carrying the Glock and the LCP in hot southern summers with a t-shirt and shorts. Just my experience.
