Ruger LC9.

Is the Ruger LC9 really a pocket pistol? It just seems a little biggerthan your traditional LCP or Bodyguard.

I carry mine everyday in front pocket of Wrangler carpenter jeans no problem and when it dont fit there it slides right into my back pocket. Great gun!

That all depends on what your definition of "is" is. I pocket carry the LC9 every day. No malfunctions, easy carry, and accuracy to 50 feet make it my every day carry.

In my case, it's not a pocket pistol. I wear the "boot cut" jeans and the pockets are simply too tight to enable a semi-rapid draw of the weapon. Even my LCP is somewhat difficult, so my pants must be too tight.

The LC9 is a great gun (IMHO). Single-stacking makes it very thin and concealment is a breeze.

As you can see from the posts above, you CAN use it as a pocket pistol (it even meets the definition for one). It all depends on how big your pockets are. IMO, it's right there at the upper edge of viability as a pocket pistol. On some of my dress slacks, I can't get it to fit through the opening. On the other hand, on other slacks, I can carry several DVD's in full sized jewel cases, so the little pistol disappears in it's DeSantis Nemesis holster.

Oh, and it's a great pistol. Worth the price as a BUG or even EDC. It's what I use on a regular basis (when I'm not overdressing with room for my XD9 Service to hide). Most of the time I forget it's there. Which can make getting late night calls to return to the office fun since I work on a federal government installation.

Ruger LC9

Had my LC9 for about two weeks. Put 200 rounds through it with no problems. Pocket carry it in my jeans with a desantis nemesis.

I'd recommend a wallet style holster to hide the outline of grip. Here's where I got mine: Uncle George's Wallet Holster Now, it's true George does not make a holster for the LC9, so maybe here?: Ruger LC9 Pocket Holster Personally, I would get that one for an LC9.

Prior to the Uncle Georges wallet holster for my LCP I used a pocket holster that let the grip remain as a tell tale outline to those who'd recognize the subtle shape...

I'm going to rekindle this older thread on the LC9 to see what posters think about the functionality of the weapon.

I read through a number of reviews (and comments) on the gun last night. There DOES seem to be an occasional FTF problem that exhibits itself (if the particular gun is so afflicted) rather quicky.

Is this "the occasional lemon" gremlin exposing itself?

Of course there just HAD to be those comment posters who just HAD to whine about the "safeties" incorporated in the weapon. (... and anyone who has read my posts on the matter know full well that I am "safety first" with weapons.) "We don't need no stinkin' safeties!" (Attitude alone indicates those most in need of them.)

Anyone have any experience pro or con with the LC9?

Now I have to wait a while before I can find out if the one my wife bought is a lemon or not. We "shot out" our shooting budget and renewed our range membership Friday AND spent $300 on the weapon yesterday. No gun budget until March now. LOL!

I've had mine for six months now with almost 1000 rounds through it (I'd have to check the logs for the exact count, but that's fairly close). The only problems I've had are FTE errors using balky ammunition. Ammunition from that same box/lot caused FTE's in other pistols that are picky about ammunition. I wouldn't blame those on the pistol, rather the ammo.

Other than that, once I got the sites straight and locked down, it's run fine.

Did manage to get my brother with it this weekend. He's been bugging me to let him try it (he's interested in getting one for himself). So, I handed it to him with a magazine loaded with Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P JHP. I told him to have fun. :smile: Turn about's fair play for him handing me his SP2022 with +P JHP loaded and not telling me.

Little gun's got a bit of a kick with defensive loads if you're not expecting it. :lol:

As for the safety, I like the frame safety. It's not needed when carried on the belt (whether inside or outside), but it does add the extra layer for safety for when I pocket carry it in a Nemesis.

The magazine disconnect safety can go take a flying leap, as far as I'm concerned, though. :angry:

Pros - it's a nice weapon. Eats almost everything I can feed it. Very nice sites for a pistol of its size. Less recoil than you'd expect for a pistol its size (unless you're being a jerk and hand someone higher pressure ammo with larger bullets ... )

Cons - it's small, so lower capacity (7+1). Magazines for it where scarce when I bought mine but they're back in stock pretty much everywhere that carries them. Requires a punch or the internal lock key to do a field strip to clean it.

That's about it. IMO, it's a well put together handgun that is capable of doing what it's designed to do. Right now, it's my EDC (and several other people's), so that's saying something.

I'm glad you mentioned field stripping of the LC9.

The ONLY thing I don't like (albeit not much of a problem) is the plastic take-down pin cover. Mine is almost impossible to open (push down) with my thumb alone. The manual suggests using a piece of wood to help. I broke a popsicle stick the first time I tried. I've found the end of a patch holder from a cleaning rod works great.

To me it is a very poor design...the only flaw in the engineering of the gun. In addition, I mentioned this on a Ruger forum and some Ruger fanatics practically accused me of heresy.:blink:

As I previously posted, the LC9 is a fine gun. This is the only "quirky" thing about it...IMHO.

Paper clip end is perfect field expedient for the "key"..... minor inconvenience.

Hopefully no one was griping about needing that "tool" for the field stripping because it needs to be done rapidly and easily, if necessary, in a combat situation.

Got some bad news for you, if you are required to field strip your weapon in the middle of a firefight.... chances are you are irrevocably SCREWED! Tool needed or not.

In short, if your primary gets baulky, you had better hope you have a BUG rather than a take down tool.

I just traded my LC9 for a Glock 26 gen4 today. I am left handed so Glocks tend to suit me better. I really didn't give the LC9 a fair tryout. I had only shot it about 20 times, just didn't like the saftey on this Ruger, I do have a Ruger SR9 that I like alot. Although I only shot the LC9 about 20 times, I did have a couple of FTE, it might just be that I didn't break it in enough.
I can't wait to take the Glock out to shoot. Right now my Concealed Carry pistol is a Glock 36 45acp, I am looking to make the Glock 26 g4 my future concealed carry pistol. I use a wilderness holster for the glock 36, it actually looks like a holder for a CD player.
