Ruger LC9 issue / question

I went to the range today and the magazine kept falling out "on its own" after about every 3rd shot or so (not to mention jamming). Since I hadn't been to the range in about 6 months, I figured it was my grip and was inadvertently hitting the magazine release button so I adjusted my grip to no avail. Wondering if it was just me or not, I had my friend fire it and it did the same thing. I looked at the release button and it seems as though it is almost flush with the body and I honestly don't recall how it was before this issue started. The release button is acting almost like a hair trigger with even the lightest of pressure releasing it.

I will admit that I got lazy and had not cleaned the gun since the last time I fired it. Could a dirty gun cause this? Would leaving the magazine loaded 24/7 cause any harm to the magazine?

A dirty gun can possibly do a lot of things but I doubt it would cause the problem you are having. It sounds like you have a mag release issue; could be a spring broken or the catch itself. I would send it to Ruger for repair

i also have a LC9 and other than the long hard trigger pull i have not had a problem , but lets look at yours . the first thing i would do is give it GOOD SCRUBBING paying a lot of attention to the INSIDE of the grip especially where the magazine release button is . after drying it , a drop of good gun oil on the release button work it than try it if that fixes it GREAT . if not take it back to the dealer you bought it from and ask him what his opinion is . if no help than off to RUGER for a repair.................GOOD LUCK and GOD bless

Clean it and pull out the mag catch. Sending it back to ruger seems like a lot of work for something that can probably easily be fixed yourself. My guess is either the spring is broken or not bent right. If you take it out and the spring is not broken bend it to put more tension on the catch. Should fix it. If the catch itself is broken request a new one from ruger.

A dirty firarm is always suspect. I teach my students that a clean gun is a happy gun. Keeping a magazine loaded has no affect as it is simply resting in the magazine well. Even keeping the firearm loaded should make no difference regarding the magazine release. With the LC9 sized pistols, there is little room for dirty components so I would check there first.
