Ruger LC9 for purse

My wife is new to CC and is searching for the ideal purse gun. She seems to like the Ruger LC9. Can someone suggest something that might be better or a more appropriate cal than 9mm? She doesn't have very strong hands for revolvers.

To me when it comes to criminal intent perpetrated on a woman there are two main targets, her body and or her purse.
Whereas a purse is very convenient I am not sure putting your gun in with your keys, money and ID is the best place for it.
I'd like to hear the positive side of purse carry. Maybe I'm missing something.

LC9 is DAO with a long trigger pull, and it kicks fairly hard. May not be the best choice for weak hands.
Bersa Thunder Pro UC is slightly larger but doesn't kick hard. Also, it is a DA/SA which would be much easier for weak hands.
Revolvers are usually better for weak hands.

My Fiance is the same way. She doesn't have the strongest hands in the world. I would recommend a .380 for her to use a daily Conceal Carry (CC). The LC9 does come in that caliber and it's easy to CC with that version. I use a Sig Sauer P250 SC as a daily CC and it works for me. All I have to say is "If she's gonna carry it then it's up to her"

9mm is a very good caliber for CC mainly because target rounds are cheap so you will go to the range & practice more often. The LC9 would be a wonderful choice because it is affordable, the Kahr CM9 would be my second choice if the money was there. It all comes down to practice, practice, practice!

Thanks for all the information, everyone. The wife appreciates it too. I'm sure we'll find just the right one..

I like my Sig p238. I have issues to rack, old hands. P238 easier than Bersa Thunder which I also have. We've the Kahr PM9 which I can't budge. I have been able to rack the 938, thinking on getting that one. It's only slightly larger than the p238 and looks like a good CC. I've been waiting on all the reviews to get out on the 938. Make sure you have a dedicated place for the gun, shop for a gun purse she's comfortable with and practice with it. There are some great videos on how to carry and draw from purses. People carry in all sorts of positions, some of which are just as easily accessible as a purse. Many people can be overpowered and relieved of their weapon regardless of where it is on their person. Be aware and practice.

If it is going in a purse I would say go glock 26 (sub compact 9mm) I own a lc9 and the recoil is up there and the trigger is long. (it could work but would want to run through lots of rounds) the .380 version lcp has a 9 mm kick so whats the point for a purse gun. The lcp size is great for pocket carry in small clothing (shorts t-shirt) I dont know your wifes experience but the glock 26 is a good range/defense gun and very reliable. My wife does not purse carry due to if a robber steals grabs your purse you just lost your gun, and time to draw can be long without lots of practice. I am no pro just listing my experience sort through as you see fit.

Edit to add: My wife says my lc9 with 124 gold dot +p ammo, feels like more recoil then her glock 27 (sub compact .40) and I feel the same.

LC9 has great safeties for CCW... if you want something weaker than 9x19, then ruger makes the 9x17, the LC380 (different than the LCP which is cheaper made... and lacking in many areas... ). As for shape- the LC9 and LC380 share the same holster.

I have an LC9 for my CCW. I love it because it is cheaper to use frequently, and as stated here has good safeties. I take my daughters to shoot, and my 17yo likes it. My 14yo couldn't control it well and only fired 2 shots. After the first I tried to help her with her grip and technique, after the 2nd she said her hand just wouldn't do it. She is about 5'5" and I would guess about 100lbs.

I would recommend visiting a store that has a range and rental weapons. You would not buy a car without a test drive. Don't buy a gun based on looks or even size. Ask to fire one magazine through it and they might probably won't even charge you. They want to sell the gun.

Thanks for the info! It gives me more good stuff to consider. We're considering everything and want to be sure we get it right.
