Ruger American 270

So I have been considering getting a Ruger American this fall. I was going to get it in 30-06. It would mostly be for fun but if I went deer hunting I would have a suitable cartridge.

I was forced to go to Walmart last night so I checked out the gun section. On clearance was the Ruger American in 270 for $260. Almost half price! They also had about 10 boxes of 270 vs the 3 of 30-06. And they were the same price.

I did some quick reading on the 270 cart and what I read was favorable. One review likes it more than the 30-06 unless you are in heavy cover because it had a flatter trajectory.

So would I be dumb to pass this up? I'm kinda thinking about snatching it up.

Jump on that deal as fast as you can, I have hunted deer with both a 30-06 and a 270 and both work great. I hunt with a 270 all the time now,it kicks less and shoots flatter. As for hunting in thick brush no cartridge works in thick brush ,they all will deflect if they hit the brush. Don"t miss that deal go right now !!!

Thanks. I did go back and get it. Also cleaned out their shelf if ammo. ;)

Now to get a scope and find time to hit the range

That is a great deal, if you decide you don't like the ruger I'll be happy to give what you paid for it.A good 2x7 or 3x9 scope will make all the difference in your accuracy.Go have fun with your new toy and be safe.

If you are going to target shoot a lot you might want to reload. I use hornady 130 gr. balistic tip bullets and 57.5 grains of reloader 19 in a rock chucker press. That gives me a load just over 3000 fps. I have shot one hole 3 shot groups at 100 yards with this load and taken atleast half a dozen deer with this load. Have a great day and as allways be safe.

I would like to start reloading. I figured rifle would be a good place to start before I get into pistol rounds as I have a source of 9mm at good prices.

Last time I was there Walmart had one more. I'd be happy to pick it up for you as long as it's legally ok to do so. I was off on the price a bit. It was $275. Feel free to PM me or email [email protected]

Thanks,I don't realy need another 270 but that price is great. Speaking of reloading I use rcbs dies and a rock chucker press. Save your brass, I like name brand brass (federal, remington and winchester) in that order. You will need a trimmer as the 270 cases will streach, I found out the hard way that if you don't trim your cases they will stick in your gun action and they are a pain to get out. Have fun with your new rifle and be safe.

I have the Ruger American 30-06, it is one of 3 hunting rifles I own (Remington and JC Higgins 50) The newer Ruger is my preferred choice. Fantastic function and it just seems to have the best parts of a variety of rifles. Love the trigger setup, safety location and function, 3 lug, very easy to break down and drop box.

I have taken one shot in 3 seasons with it at a buck, just under 300 with a low cost Vortex Diamondback scope and that is the only shot I needed (a first for me as a "fair" shot) I found it difficult to believe that I would like a rifle at its price, but it grew on me the day I sighted it in. It is a cannon and very light, but at 6'2 210 it stays put pretty well.
