From EMA Tactical RONI Pistol - Carbine Conversion for Glock RONI-G1:

NFA Warning

This product is regulated by NFA rules. Transfer of this product is regulated by NFA rules.

This product converts a pistol into a short barreled rifle (SBR). SBR are regulated under the laws of the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA). It is illegal to possess this product unless it is registered with Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives BATF&E (Form 1) or you are a Class 3 Dealer. It is illegal to transfer this product to anyone before they have registered this product with BATF&E.

Now you have to figure out if you can own a SBR in Iowa. Look at the following link under "offensive weapons" (724.1, 724.2/A and 724.3): Link Removed

From what I understand: NO.

It took me about 5 minutes to google this and 5 minutes to write it up.

If you are really interested in a handgun-caliber carbine, take a look at the Kel-Tec Sub-2000. It does take Glock (and some other pistol) magazines.

Another option is the SIG Sauer Adaptive Carbine Platform in the Standard or Enhanced version (i.e. without a folding stock):

FYI: From what I understand, there is an ongoing (imminent) effort to legalize suppressors (silencers) in Iowa. Not all hope is lost:
