Revolver VS Auto

My first two guns I bought back in the early years were a Ruger MKII and a Taurus .357 revolver. I had nothing but trouble with the Ruger, and being a new shooter, I was afraid of it with all of the ftf & fte problems.:help: I ended up locking it away for a long time and swearing off semi-autos. Well I finally found some good instruction and support so I'm no longer afraid of it. I just don't trust it. I have since then bought several semi-autos and revolvers, and I sold the Ruger and never looked back.

I now carry a Springfield XD-9SC as my primary carry, but I have a j-frame S&W revolver as one of my bugs and I just got a little .22mag derringer as a second bug. I like the capacity and compactness of the semi-autos, but I will always have a tiny bit of mistrust for them.

Nice pics Jay.

I basicly have two carry guns. A SW J-Frame. The Smith amd I go back a long way, there's a history there. Just drop it in your pocket and your good to go. The other is a Para Carry 45. I love this gun! There is something about a 1911/style pistol that makes my heart go pitter patter.

Both my daughters would rather shoot the Para than any of the revolvers. My wife perfers a revolver. As a matter of fact that's what she carries. A SW J-Frame.

I love all handguns, revolver, semi, bolt & break action. I shoot all of those types several times a month.

The paramount thing for me insofar as carry guns go is pointability. Many years of IPSC competition taught me to be a instinctive shooter. Basically I hit what I look at without taking the time to line up the sights.
Some eminently pointable pistols are All 1911's, S&W 5000 series ( I have a 5906), Walther PPK/S, S&W J frame 649.

You know those get me every time...
Watch out for the fingerprints and drool...
Because of my nerve damage to my thumb, my doctor said no more porn. I asume he included gun porn like this.

Is it ok to say porn on here? I don't with to offend any zealots. Wait, they all have me on ignore, so they can't see what I type.:to_pick_ones_nose::to_pick_ones_nose:

The fingerprints wipe right off, and as long as I keep stocked up on tactical mints, the drool is just sticky..... Hoppes #9 takes care of it......

I would have to say your experience with the Mk II is NOT typical. I owned a Mk II for about 20 years, then gave it to my son. It has had thousands and thousand of rounds through it, and I really don't ever remember a misfeed or a jam. And as for accuracy, they are absolute tack drivers.

And almost evey gun guy I know either owns, or has owned, a Mk II, and I have never heard of anyone who had any real problems.

The only complaint I have (and other owners also have) is they can be real bitch to reassemnble after field stripping to clean

I guess a bad one slips through every manufacturing process now and then.

I also have a Taurus .357 (model 66)

Not to change the subject but, if you have not already, try CCI Mini-Mags in the little Ruger. They are a higher quality than the bulk pack ammo a lot of people use. I've got a Mark 1 that had occasional problems. Not enough to be a major problem considering it's not an SD gun but annoying nontheless. I took it to shoot at a local indoor range - Allen Arms in Greenville - and mentioned the problem. The salesman suggested I try the mini-mags. I did and they worked well - no issues in 100 rounds. Not really conclusive but something to think about.

Thanks Tiger, I tried every brand of ammo I could get my hands on, polished the feed ramp, plus I sent it back to Ruger for warranty repair... I sold it last winter. Mybe someone else will be able to do something with it.

Not necessarily true if the gun is out of battery, possibly due to pressure against the muzzle during a scuffle.

One of the first things I tried when running through the functional testing with my M&P45. How far back does the slide have to be to disable it's ability to fire? I came up with about a 1/4" back and it will prevent it from firing.

Peace...

I never pulled a trigger on a Glock that did not fire. And grab my gun? Not likely.
