Revolver questions

Hey all, I'm looking at getting a revolver for my daily carry, and I've got a couple of questions for all you revolver carriers. I have my CCW, and I've been around guns for a while, but I am not an expert by any means.

Question list:

1) How big was the revolver that you carried (barrel length, caliber, approx weight)?
2) Where did you hide it on your person?
3) Where did you put speed reloaders? How many did you carry?
4) Was the gun modified (sights, grip, springs, ...)?

Also, any other advise that you could give in relation to carrying revolvers would be very welcome. Thanks in advance for your help!

S&w 642

Most of the time in an ankle holster, but I did carry small-of-back when I had good cover garments (read: cool weather).

It was a J-Frame .38+P, barrel <2". Used speed strips instead of reloaders.

I agree smith and wesson j frame airweight 38+p. 14oz empty. I differ than most though in the fact that I like the hammered true single / double action because if I would need to pull off a longer shot say 30ft the single action trigger is more accurate and I still have the double for speed. Carried in my front pocket at all times with the nastiest ammo I can find. I cannot find a better carry gun that is unseeable at all time even in dress cloths

I've carried a Ruger Sp101 .357m snubby for many years. Used to carry an XD .45 for a while, but it is a bit big for me now.
I carry openly in a leather belt holster. Same holster is used with a cover garment occasionally, usually just because I have a coat on.
I carry two speedloaders (or magazines for the auto) in a leather pouch on the other side of my belt.
No modifications except a bit of reflective paint on the front sight. But I would like to get a new set of grips for the Ruger. These are about worn out. :)

1. S&W 2" Model 36 - .38 Special (Federal .38 Special +P 158gr. LSWC-HP "FBI" load) - self-made pocket holster in right front pocket - Butler Creek synthetic boot grips
2. S&W 3" Model 65 - .357 Magnum (Federal .38 Special +P 158gr. LSWC-HP "FBI" load) - Don Hume 715M IWB - Pachmayr synthetic grips

I carry a speed loader in my right change pocket, otherwise just in the pocket.

Get a good holster and belt. Flimsy dime store belts just won't cut it.

I carry a S&W 686, 357, 4" barrel in a shoulder holster when the weather permits. Still in the market for a smaller revolver for warmer weather and easier concealment. One speedloader in a jacket pocket.

I prefer my S&W M&P 340 carried in either the front or rear right pocket (holster of course). It's a bit pricey but the 642's are as good. I love the front sight on it and carry speed loads in right front pocket..left pocket if carry handgun in front. I practice with 38's and a few 357's. I figure adrenaline will handle the recoil if the SHTF.

Before I bought my Sr9c. I carried a Ruger sp101 357 with a 2 1/4" barrel. I carried it IWB & OWB at 2:00 with no problems other than it was a little heavy. I had a a uncle Mikes holster for OWB and a Kydex from Ruger for IWB.

1) Ruger LCR .357 with Hogue Tamer grips.
2) Usually carried in a IWB holster at 4 o'clock.
3) I usually carried 2 speed strips in my pocket.
4) I put a night site on. I can't remember what brand.

I found that the LCR tucked really well because of how short it was and the curve of the grip. I did find the grip a tad bulky at times. A boot grip or the laser grip would have helped with that. I have since switched to a LC9 for EDC. I do miss the LCR from time to time though...

S&W J frame .38 in an elastic under the shirt shoulder holster...

Thanks for all of the comments! :) I currently carry an H&K P30, which is a full framed semi-auto. Larger heavier guns don't scare me that much. Although, I do see the big advantage to a snub nose.

I've never heard of speed strips. I'll have to look it up.

I'm looking at a Ruger SP101 with either a 3" or a 4" barrel. I'm a little leary of snub nosed revolvers because of a lady that was in my CCW class who had one and had significant trouble hitting the paper with it, but could hit the target readily when using a larger revolver (GP100 I think).

For those of you who carry OWB, what do you use to counter balance the firearm?

I have an Iver Johnson safety auto hammerless 38s&w revolver. It is a 5 shot with about a 3 and 1/4 inch barrel. Approximately 20 ounces. (Unloaded)
It has a little bark and a tad of a muzzle hop. But I can put all 5 shots on paper quickly and accurately.
I carry iwb at 3 in a formed leather holster.
Now for speed loaders. I have two in my pockets. One on each side. I also carry an extra 5 bullets loose in my left pocket (not really loose but in a cloth bag)
This revolver is an original from 1909 and has no modifications.
I love it.

1.875" barrel, 13.5oz dry, overall length 6.5"
2.)crossbreed supertuck @ 4 o'clock
3.)normally 2, either in jacket pocket or in a standard size leather speed loader holster at about 8:30 position.
4.)no mods

1) Ruger LCR .38S+P with Hogue Tamer grips. 13.5 oz unloaded. < 2" barrel.
2) I usually carry in a Uncle Mikes #36 IWB holster at 4 o'clock. OWB Desantis holster or in front pocket(in a pocket holster of course) when at home.
3) I don't carry speed loaders or strips yet.
4) No mods yet. Night sight will be my first mod.

Nice little gun, but takes some practice to hit the paper with that short barrel and DA only. However, the trigger is nice. I am a much better shot with my Ruger GP100 4" .357, but it is so darn large and heavy for me to CC.

1. LCR 38SP
2. Inside front Pocket Blackhawk! holster $15
3. 5 shots is enough
4. the newer-lighter Hogue grip, cost $15 on eBay Nothing else needed
Great gun. Shoots as fast as you can point it; don't need an autoloader

He who claims to carry any gun in an ankle holster has never actually needed to get
a gun out of one in a hurry, unless he sits down all the time like a truck driver.

He who claims to carry a gun in the small of his/her back has never fallen down and
landed on his/her back or never has had to sit down all the time in an office chair.

YMMV.
