I am new to concealed carry but have been around guns my whole life hunting and range. I have a ruger sp101 .357 mag hammerless with a iwb holster that I carry every day. I would like to hear peoples views and opinions on carrying a revolver vs my s&w m&p 40

Ok I'm a semi-auto guy! That being said I have a jframe for pocket carry. Not sure what your looking for but generally for the same weight as a revolver you get double the round count, and easier reloads in a semi auto platform.
Now I've seen video of revolver guys that are just as fast as the Semi guys are, but that's a lot of practice. In general I'd say that for most people a semi auto will be easier to shoot and faster to reload!
That being said carry what your most comfortable with.

Revolvers have their pros and cons. I have a jframe smith that I use for pocket carry. I put a crimson trace grip on it and for me it's the perfect summer carry piece. It's all about what u r wearing and where u r going.

Depends on what youre better with, and youre preferrences are. That said, my edc is a. 357 mag ruger police service six. Now i will add, that with a semi, once you blow through your mag/s, reloading a revolver is quicker and easier than reloading a mag.

It is really about you carry situation. I love my SandW. Airweight 38+p and always carry it because of dress clothes. I like carrying my Glock but it scares customers so thats not good. There is the whole confidence thing with pocket carry and insufficient cleaning it could jam. Now my Glock has never jammed .since day one beut you here stories. Carry the gun you can carry always and always carry it .

I just bought myself a Taurus Judge for mother's day. :o) I can hardly wait to take it to the range. I'll be sending off for my CCW this week. This will be my first revolver.

I have both and like both, 38spl. Air weight and a sig p238 .380, the revolver doesn't lend itself to pocket carry for me, I like the revolver for overall confidence, you pull the trigger and it will go off, no question about jams, or missed ejects. My sig has never failed at the range but there is always a first time.

Also Bought my wife an airweight with crimson trace, for the same reasons as above, she doesn't have to remember to do anything Except hold that muzzle on target. And squeeze

I love revolvers. I have the same weapon and carry it regularly. I carry it based upon my threat. No I am not a cop, nor am I searching and clearing terrorist strongholds. 5 .357 rounds with speed loader reload should do me just fine. If I ever move to the inner city or travel through the big city, I may switch my choice.

You'll probably love it, Wabbit. I've had mine for a while now, and I don't think you can get a better weapon for defense against home invasion. With the LC .45 or the HD .410, you'll be satisfied. In case you're thinking about it, concealing a Judge is hard to do, especially if you're a skinny guy, but it can be done. I just don't recommend it. Be safe.

Shuteye, if you've read all these posts, you've heard the good advice. Carry what you're comfortable with. Accuracy with the first few rounds is the most important thing in a have-to situation.
Uncle Al

I carry a SP101 DAO in the waist and a LCR357 in the front pocket every day. I prefer 357 Revolvers and feel well armed with 10 rounds of 357 and a reload for each gun.

Wabbit ...take your Judge out and fire several hundred assorted rounds through it before you trust it for CC. I have a Public Defender model that does light-strikes (various ammo) too often for my comfort in a CC gun. I have a hammerless DAO Ruger LCR 357 that I load with .38+P JHP that conceals easily, but my favorite right now is a Ruger LC9, also very easy to conceal. I am in t-shirt most days, and often shorts, with IWB Crossbreed holster.

I carry a S&W 642 in a GALCO Pro 158 suede pocket holster. I have several holsters, both vinyl and leather, but the Suede seems to present more of a natural "bulge" against my thigh and masks the outline of the gun better. I can wear it with really light, thin slacks and it still appears natural. A Bianchi Speed Strip reloader is in the left pocket, wrapped in a thin handkerchief. The whole rig just disappears into my pockets.

The SP101 is a strong gun, I like to shoot them.
Mine is on long term lone, they keep it in the bedroom for protection.

Actually, I'm a 5' 10", rather busty woman lol ... I tested it before buying it. I'm able to conceal it very well, although I'm considering buying a smaller automatic as well, for those days when my attire isn't as concealing. ;o)

I carried a J-Frame IWB for fifteen years. About ten years ago, I finally got tired of the "thickness" of the cylinder and started carrying a semi-auto. Many less concealment issues with a semi verses a wheel gun...not to mention the comfort increase.

My $0.02.

Just got my permit, what do yall think about the Ruger LCR in 38 and 357, also I've been told by an ex-cop that 38 won't stop somebody that you need at least 357 what do you think folks?
