Restraint carry in NC

Anyone know of any progress on restaurant carry in NC. I remember hearing it was gaining momentum before sandy hook.

Anyone heard the current status of any bills related to this?

HB937 passed the house, and is sitting in committee in the Senate.

I've heard rumors of the Senate combining this bill with other gun bills for one big omnibus firearms bill, but as it stands, it's stuck in committee.

The chairman of the committee is Sen. Tom Apodaca, one of the guys responsible for killing restaurant carry last year. I'd recommend calling both him and Senate President Phil Berger (the other guy responsible) and encourage them to move this bill.

Actually things are looking very hopeful that this will be come law. The Senate actually strengthened over what the House passed, and pass it (32 - 16) on a second reading today. Looking good to come up tomorrow for the 3rd and final vote, then on to the governor.

Improvements to HB 937

In addition to restaurant carry, guns in locked vehicles in state-owned parking lots and a limited provision for guns in locked vehicles on state college campuses, all of which were in the House version of the bill, the Proposed Committee Substitute passed by the Senate:

• Expands the guns-in-locked-vehicles provision for concealed handgun permit-holders (CHP-holders) to include all campuses rather than simply institutions of higher learning. As before, employees of the institution living in detached dwellings could still transfer firearms to and from their homes, but also added is a limited measure for employees who do not have CHPs.

• Enables CHP-holders to carry at assemblies of people for which admission is charged and any establishment serving alcohol unless the person in control of the premises posts against firearms. As before, permit-holders would be prohibited from imbibing alcohol.

• Narrows and clarifies the definition of "recreational facilities" within parks where municipalities may still ban concealed carry in parks, specifically prohibiting bans when organized athletic events are not taking place, and prohibiting bans in greenways, biking and walking paths and other open areas.

• Removes handgun permits from public record, rendering them unavailable to the media.

• Repeals the current prohibition on firearms for CHP-holders at funerals and parades.

• Repeals NC's Jim Crow-era handgun purchase permit system in its entirety.

• Requires sheriffs to revoke CHPs from permit-holders convicted of disqualifying crimes.

• Expands hunting to include use of sound suppressors.

NC residents: Go to GRNC for information and email list to contact all NC State Senators and let them hear your voice in favor of this pro-gun legislation. We are closer than I felt possible, and now is not the time to let up. Let's keep their feet to the fire.
 
Read this too today in the Nuisance Disturber, and my heart jumped a beat! This is why Bev Purdue and 125 years of carpet baggers was a bad government for North Carolina. Now that Democrats have fallen into internal decay, even shooting each other, stuff that should have happened long ago has a logical chance. Thank God!
 
I just looked at the Senate has published their calendar for tomorrow (Thur 6/13) and HB 937 is scheduled. Contact NC Senators now.
 
Passed the Senate, they haven't posted the vote tally yet, but PASSED with all the Senate improvements intact, including restaurant carry, paid admission carry intact, securing guns in cars on any campus.

Now back to the house for one more vote, and it becomes law. Will be watching the House calendar and put on a full court press to pass the Senate version.

Oh baby, have I got some liberal noses to rub in this :wink: but I will wait until it is a done deal.
 
Glad to see our new State, NC, is actually complying, or attempts to comply, with our US Constitutional Rights. Gotta Lov those conservatives in Raleigh. Hell gotta Lov the conservatives in Davidson County. Every elected official in this county is conservative. Me thinks a trend has started..................
 
If 125 years of suppression by a bunch of carpetbaggers since 1898 can certainly be overcome, we should be able to do the same thing soon at the federal level, to clean up the Obama trash!

I do believe SIR, that's about the most profound statement I've heard since I've move to this great State.
 
This bill (HB 937) is not a done deal yet. All north carolineans please visit www.grnc.org in the alerts section and use their instructions to contact house leaders to ensure the house gives concurrence. Also there are instructions to contact the governer.

Sherriff's a pushing hard to derail the bill due to the removal of the outdated Jim Crow era permit system. My understanding is that it I is a minority of sherriff's but the I ones with power in the NCSA.

Please contact house members ASAP

Still no movement on this bill...
I was at the Moore County Sheriff's Office yesterday (renewing my CC) and the nice folks in there were discussing "probable changes" to NC Laws.
 
Called rep Tillis (NC house speaker) Apparently he will recommend to NOT vote of concurrence and they will make a technical change removing the end to pistol permits in favor of a "study" ( translate it will never happen). They say this has full support of GRNC.

If this is true it really hurts. GRNC has been pushing for 11 days for us to put pressure on our representatives to keep this in the bill. Now they support its removal.

I'm really disappointed in GRNC.
 
BTW. it is looking more and more like the republican leadership in the house will let this bill die. That's 2 years in a row these types of bills have been killed by republicans. Please call your reps as well as speaker Tillis
 
With Republicans like this, who needs Democrats??? This only goes to show that republicans of today are really democrat lites. We really need a conservative movement to take hold and boot out these dem lite folks. The republican party is losing me fast and am now looking into third party candidates.
 
This bill come up for a concurrence vote tomorrow, 7/16.
If the house votes to concur, it goes to the Gov'nah. We "should" have enough votes to be veto proof.

We will finally see where da'guv stands on 2A issues (or where those holding his strings want him to stand). To date neither action or statements have given any indication. The "R" by his name on the ballot is meaningless, he is in this for himself.
