Restaurant Carry

Hello I will be visiting the Savannah GA area in a couple of weeks and was curious about restaurant carry. I had a hard time finding anything on it but, I stumbled across the Georgia packing site and found this.

In a bar unless the owner permits carry (the owner has to grant permission for you to be able carry, a bar is defined as an establishment that is devoted to the serving of alcoholic beverages for consumption by guests on the premises and in which the serving of food is only incidental to the consumption of those beverages, like taverns, nightclubs, cocktail lounges, and cabarets)

I assume if the restaurant's main goal is food than I should be good. I do not plan to drink at all when I am there because I do not mix booze and guns not even a couple. Could someone confirm this is true or point me to the government website that will help me. Thanks in advance

Honestly, where I'm at there aren't many bars per say, they are all restaurants first bar second.. I'm north of atlanta though ..

If food is only an incidental part of the profits then it is considered a bar.

A restaurant's main profits is from the food. Don't sit at the bar, if there is a separate bar at the restaurant (reason being, sometimes the bar monies are a separate legal entity from the restaurant itself). In other words, you will always be safe sitting in the restaurant section. You may be safe in the bar section (attached to a restaurant). You will never be safe if the establishment is predominantly alcohol serving, unless the owner allows it.

O.C.G.A. § 16-11-127
(a) As used in this Code section, the term:
(1) 'Bar' means an establishment that is devoted to the serving of alcoholic beverages for
consumption by guests on the premises and in which the serving of food is only incidental to the
consumption of those beverages, including, but not limited to, taverns, nightclubs, cocktail
lounges, and cabarets.

I hope that was clear.

Be careful about relying on data in the GeorgiaPacking.org website. This site is no longer owned by anyone in Georgia. It was purchased by a guy in Texas for financial gain and I don't believe it is being updated.....

Getting ready to go to Savannah. I have a Florida and just want to ensure I can go into a Restaurant as long as it is the primary business of food service , not alcohol.
Bars are a no.

Georgia recognizes Florida's Carry Permit, so you are good there. I carry concealed in restaurants all the time. If you are sitting in the main dinning area you should be fine. A also believe Georgia law prohibits drinking alcohol while armed, so you may want to research that a bit more before partaking, which is one of the primary past time in Savannah!

I agree with Steven, if you were to get into an altercation in which a weapon was drawn or used, and you had been drinking, I can't see that going well if it made it to a court of law. Better safe than sorry!

so you'd rather suffer the consequences of being attacked than face the wrath of the law? to use an old cliche it is better to be judged by a jury of 12 than to be carried by a group of 6.
you do what works well for you and I'll do what works for me. have a nice day:haha:

Not sure if you are are reading what we are saying. I just would rather not drink while in a restaurant with my family, while I am carrying my GUN. Why drink? That way I enjoy the company of my family and am more alert to a potential incident.
I was just asking if I could carry in a restaurant, which I can, and I wont drink when I do.

are you saying that you cannot control your drinking? that you cannot enjoy the company of others when out socially because you drink to excess? if so, please don't carry.
Many people are able to enjoy a glass of wine or 2 with dinner, have a cocktail with people or down a few beers with out becoming unable to control their behavior, I've managed to enjoy adult beverages and carry a weapon without ever having become not in control.

Oh God......Are you drinking now? Or still drunk from last night.
This thread has given me the answer I need. Have a good one buddy.

So, you can provide an example of a real court case? We've been waiting for several years now for an example. I can provide you with an example of a man beaten to death by a flower pot from his front porch, so since there is more evidence of getting beaten to death with a flower pot, should we take all our flower pots off our porches, "better safe than sorry"? I don't care if a person chooses to drink while lawfully carrying a firearm or not, but it is only a theory with no example in reality that alcohol consumption will affect the outcome of a court case in a self-defense case.

just a few sanctimonious boobs who apparently can't grasp the reality that adults can imbibe without getting $hitfaced like they did when they were teeny boppers

You have proved your manhood, now move on to another thread and talk of battery powered cars or something...

no, not trolling. it is that I just can't stand when people make foolish unsubstantiated proclamations. If some rube can't drink responsibly that doesn't mean that people should be have some sort of restriction of their of carrying weapons when enjoying an adult beverage.
the sad thing is that in some states boobs like him have allowed their government to impose restrictions like this. if you allow foolishness like this to pass without rebuking it, you allowing the seeds of tyrannical behavior to set
