If your current license is expired, you may have to go through the hoops again, just as though you are a first time applicant. An expired license is not worth any thing.

Actually this is not absolutely true. If you have a PA LTCF you have a 6 month grace period to get it renewed without going through all of the original hoopla. Also if you somehow get charged with carrying a firearm without a license during this 6 month period, it is an acceptable defense in any court proceedings. This is why it is always important to check the laws of the jurisdiction which you are concerned with.

This is true in VA. I let mine expire by accident and I had to reapply like if I was applying for the very first time. I won't let that happen again. :angry:

Not all of New York issues lifetime permits.
The State of Indiana does.
