Reloading Steel Casings?

I know ppl reload brass casings but what about steel casings? Should I waste anymore time saving them? I've never asked anyone till now.

Ive done alotta research, you can reload them but they say its not worth the risk. The steel is not a flexible as Brass, so ith will crack. People do reload steel casings but they say one time is the limit.

You can buy steel cased bullets for about the same price to reload them, and the are hard on the press dies.

Yea all of mine are in the trash. Its not worth messing u or your weapon up.

Might want to check and see if a recycling place might take them. I not sure but I think some places take scrap steel. I don't know how much you'd get for them though.

Save them from scrap only. If you try to reload then if your lucky the case will break. If your unlucky you will ruin your dies.

Getting the Berdan primers out requires special tooling.

Again, as other have pointed out, it isn't worth it.

As a seasoned reloaded I will say that I has been done but, is not recommended. I also recommend taking what you already have to a recycling center. The ones around here pay 10 cents a pound for the stuff.

I thought settling for cheap, dirty, steel ammo was the nadir or shooting frugality. You've dug through the floor my friend.

Glad to see others who either buy steel or reload have chimed in, as I don't do either. Perhaps someday, when space and time permit, I'll do the latter, but surely not with the former.

I use steel when I know I wont be keeping the cases to reload, or it will be a pain to pick them up (and I'm someplace Im allowed to leave them on the ground) like in the winter when they melt through the snow at my buddies house. I run steel in my 9mm carbine, cheap gun / cheap ammo, and in my FAL because I can pick it up at walmart on a whim and it runs on it all day. My other guns (besides the SKS and AK) get brass. Once I add 9mm and .308 to my reloading equipment I'll stop using steel most of the time, and reserve of for those days I just don't want to haul it home.
