Reciprocity and Concealed Carry Class Certificates

This past spring I took a concealed carry class in Columbus, Ohio, where I was going to school. However, I have moved to North Carolina. The states have reciprocity for concealed carry licenses, but can I use my class certificate from Ohio to apply for my license in North Carolina, or will I have to retake the class? Thanks!

The classroom training is usually pretty much the same for many states. The major difference is if the state you want to get the permit in requires proof of some sort of shooting performed in front of an instructor and the class you took didn't require you to shoot.

I'm not sure I answered your question a minute ago! I wouldn't think you'd have to take the class part again. Maybe you could just get a shooting endorsement in your new state.

Hate to be the one to break it to you but North Carolina requires a North Carolina certified instructor to issue a certificate of completion of a North Carolina approved class before you can be issued a Concealed Handgun Permit. Unfortunately your Ohio class won't do you any good.

Massachusetts is similar in that they don't care what you've done before. If you're a resident there or want to get a non-res there, you have to take a class from a MA State Police Certified instructor.

Nightshadow, check on google for your state pro-gun orginazation. Just about every state has one. You can also go to the local police station & ask them. I don't live in your state but checking those 2 places should be a good start.

The shooting is a required part of the North Carolina class. Nothing to worry about. It is super easy if you know how to shoot at all. Just buy a box of ammo and consider it bonus range time:yes4:

you must take a North Carolina Concealed Handgun Course, nothing else will work (unless you became a cop, or you just Open Carry)
