Recently moved to Alabama and I have a few questions about concealed carry...

Recently moved here from South Carolina. Honorably discharged from United States Marine Corps in 2009. Will not be living here for more than 6 months because my wife is Active duty and currently in training. I have been offered a job escorting state prisoners to and from locations with different mission sets and will need to obtain a concealed weapons permit. With an out-of-state drivers license and proof of residency(by mail), without changing my Home of Record D.L. will I be able to obtain the permit? If so, where can I find the information? (would need to be written on a state/federal type webpage)

Respectfully,

Nope, Bama only issues to residents. However, Alabama does honor all out of state permits, so if you've got one in SC (or anywhere else), you're good to go. If you're saying that your job requires an Alabama permit, you're going to have to establish residency. It only takes a receipt from a utility company, or getting a driver's license with a local address. Are you living in a house or apartment while you're here, or one of those Resident's Inn kind of hotels? As long as it's the former, you should have no problem, but if it's the latter, it may do more than complicate things, you may actually be disqualified. What county/part of the state are we talking about?

Blues

ETA: Permits are issued by the County Sheriff where you live. You can Google any "county, Alabama + sheriff" and the information for how to apply and what it will cost etc. will be on their website. Usually a link to "Pistol Permits" is what you're looking for.

I decided to come to Prattville and help out my mother until approx August. I have lived here before and have a current bank account locally that sends monthly statements with my Name and current address. Also, I believe I read something in regards to military. The only exception to that is I'm no longer the Active service member, my wife is. If the weather doesn't deter me from visiting the Sheriff's office in the morning then I guess I'll know for sure when they look at me like I'm crazy. I appreciate your help and thank you for taking the time to write me back so quickly.

It's going to depend on which county you live in, not the city.

Here's the Autauga county Pistol Permit site: Link Removed

Here's the Elmore county sheriff's dept site, see the pistol permit info at the bottom of the page. Elmore County Sheriff's Department I don't believe that the 3 character references is legal now that SB 286 became legal last August; anyone know for sure?

Good luck!

I can't say I know for sure, but with "shall issue" and very solid preemption, I wouldn't think so either.
