Recent Travel

I just got back from an extended vacation. I did not take any of my handguns with me because I was going through several states that I was not legal. I knew that by Federal Law I could transport my handgun unloaded and locked up in my trunk but there has been to many stories about some of the states that I was going to travel through and possibly spend the night that still harass legal gun owners.

Here is the list where I traveled in where I was not legal. Washington DC, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania.

I had no trouble but I felt naked without my gun on my hip or in the car. My wife and I went to a camp on a lake in Maine to meet up with 4 of my shipmates for a mini-reunion. One of them was from Virginia and has his CCL and carries ALL the time. He also left his guns at home. We had talked and we both said that we neither had the time nor money to fight a unlawful harassment and seizure of our guns.

I am very happy that I am home and reunited with my guns!

I feel your pain Buddy!

Back in May-June we went to Washington DC for my 50th BD, had never been to DC, and I took my Glock 23 but I left it in the room safe when we went to Washington DC and Maryland.

Except to do the DC tourist stuff we stayed out of Maryland. We stayed in Virginia and went to Gettysburg on Memorial Day because it was legal to carry my gun there.

Except for the DC trip I avoid states and places where I cannot take my gun.

Know how you feel vern. Due to travels thru MD my guns either have to stay in Ohio or Florida. Worse part of the travel in MD, the autos have Florida plates so guess who would be a quick target there.

326 miles/ 5.5 hours if I go thru MD while it is 357 miles and an extra hour of mountainous driving to avoid MD. I wish they would hurry up with the improvements to Corridor H/US 48 so I could avoid MD all together on a 4 lane highway.
