Last weekend at a gun show I bought a Ruger .38 LCR revolver with a crimson trace. A revolver was easier to use as the slides on the semi automatics were difficult to pull back. Now I will get a concealed carry license and go to the range with my husband to practice. Any suggestions on holsters? Do I need special purse? Personal safety is why I decided to own a gun. Thanks for any advice.

Purse guns need to be hammer less IMO.

Safest place to carry is on you. Check with Galco, cross breed and other holster manufacturers regarding holsters to fit your sidearm. I also suggest a quality gun belt and not a cheapie from a department store.

Really need to get the opinion and feedback from other women. Off body carry is inherently less secure than on body. However women face unique trials when it comes to clothing and body type. I would recommend you have both to meet the needs of your clothing. I have heard that appendix carry is the most popular among women, but body style will dictate what is best for you.

Try as many holsters as possible before you buy. A holster should be comfortable enough to wear all day long, and be concealable as well.

This video and everyones's advice has been extremely helpful. I think that the more information I get , the more research I do will make me a smarter owner. I take this all very seriously and I plan to research where and with whom I want to get my concealed carry permit. My husband wants me to get a trainer. Just going on the range and practicing is fine, but to be really comfortable I will get an NRA certified trainer. Some people I've seen think that a gun is like a camera...just point and shoot. Glad I joined a forum. This is very serious business. Thanks for all your input!

Yeah I think that you are doing the best thing on getting a trainer and all and I do agree with all that have been posted, this is what this and other guns sites are for to give us a lot of awesome info for the days that we are living in. Congrats on your carrying and I wish the best for you in your carry, be safe and keep learning.

I use a cross breed holster for my LCR. I carry it just in front of my hip as it conceals better there, low and handle down makes it conceal very well.
