Range ammo advice

I pick-up my new Taurus PT 145 .45 Cal on Monday. I would appreciate any advice as to what kind of ammo to purchase. I've never had a .45 before, so I'll have to depend on your advice. I guess I'm looking for something on the less pricey side, but that will go bang everytime and not leave the pistol a dirty mess when finished. I would also appreciate the names of some of the "bargin" sites. Thanks in advance.

Walmart has Winchester White box for $32 or $34 per 100. Price may be different in your location.

I reload plated 230gr. ball with Unique powder.

I will run my Dillon 550 enough to make 1000-2000 rounds of practice ammo for the year.

For just banging on the range, I'll use reloads, inexpensive ammo (well, it used to exist) like Wolf or some such.

But for carry, I like 230 grain Hydra Shok or else 230 gr. Golden Saber or Winchester SXT in the same weight.

If I had a pistol shorter than 4 inches, I'd probably go to lighter bullets, to keep velocity up where expansion is more reliable.

Winchester White Box i have available at my local Wally World and even my local Meijer. Probably about the best cheap stuff you can run through there.

My PT145 likes everything I put through it. I don't care for steel cased ammo either, and prefer brass cases since most of my range ammo is my own reloads. Just my opinion here, but I'd stick with 230 grain ammunition. I just think the gun is designed with that in mind.
Enjoy your new pistola!

I like the "Win Clean" ammo by Winchester. The flame coming out of the muzzle looks blue in color, but it sure cuts down on the clean up at the end of the day. It is a little more expensive than normal loads though.

I have never shot the winchester white box ammo but I have heard it can make your gun pretty dirty, but again I have never shot it. For range ammo I shoot Federal from Wal-Mart. It is a little cheaper (cheapest ammo I have found actually), does not make my gun really dirty, and have never had a miss fire or any problems with my guns not eating it with no issues. Great ammo. PMC is the worst I have shot though, no missfires but it was SUPER dirty and I did have a few issues with even my Glock taking it. A few FTE issues.

i dont shoot a .45, but i use winchester white box or american eagle (federal) both are great and are not very dirty at all. i used the american eagle to get my chl and cleaned the gun afterwards and it wasnt even dirty. took 2 patches to clean.

Which model of Glock? I have shot PMC FMJ and Starfire JHP through my G22 with no problems.

Glock 26. There were probably 3-4 FTE issues with the PMC ammo in it. That was the ONLY time that gun has had any issues at all. The gun was also SUPER dirty after 150 rounds. I also shot some out of my SIG P238 and it was SUPER dirty as well. I am sure many shoot PMC with no problems but I have and don't like it. Just an opinion though.

I used to buy the Winchester White Box range ammo at WalMart. But as was mentioned above, this ammo is fairly dirty in my 1911. I've since changed to the Remington UMC 250-round boxes at WalMart. Much cleaner and they run just fine.

+1 for the Federal 230 grain. I've never had any problem with them.:pleasantry: My Taurus loves them.
