1) IMO, the bible is mostly a work of fiction. Not all but most. God didn't write the bible, men did.
Remember, that is my opinion.
2)Some use bible quotes to justify there behavior, right or wrong. Some use quotes to spew hatred, and prejudice. I would if this is really what Jesus said a very long time ago?
3)IMO, the bible is control, and guidance for weak minded people. It is a comfort for many in times of hardship, and happiness. This is all fine with me. Do what makes you feel good.
If it works for you, and those you know, I am all for it.
It is just not my cup of tea.
Thanx for taking the time to express your view on things..
I'd like to respond... I've numbered your items above... You might be surprised by my views, at least some of them.. (I am NOT trying to convince you.. I just think a response needs to be provided to your views; otherwise, you would just feel IGNORED...
1) A lot of people view the bible the way you do... I did too for a while...
What I found out is several different points about the Bible..
1) The Manuscript evidence.. There have been many sections of the early text found (The Dead Sea Scrolls for an example) and in almost all cases, what is found it the "Translation" Bibles (As opposed to Paraphrase Bibles) we have today are very accurate to the texts found from as early as the 3rd Century (Much older for the old testament). So what you get from an NIV or King James is very accurate considering the length of time since each section was written.
2) Archeological records. - Time and time again the Bible has been found to be very accurate in it's "stories" about ancient times. Scientist have historically often said.. There is NO evidence that this group of people ever existed that the Bible mentions.. Then some years later, they will find a Mesopotamian tablet that mentions the people..
3) Prophetic - A little over 80% of the Bibles Prophecies have been fulfilled (some have yet to be fulfilled). Most of these Prophecies were written more than 100 years earlies one fulfilled prophecy in the Koran, and it came true in less than 50 years.) So - Take a shot at it.. Give r, and the fulfillment is very accurate in many details. (not to offend, but to provide a comparison, there ime 5 details about a single event in the future, oh yeah, and make it more than 100 years from now..
4) Statistics - it is Statistically preposterous that any or all of the Bible’s very specific, detailed prophecies could have been fulfilled through chance, good guessing, or deliberate deceit. When you look at some of the improbable prophecies of the Old and New Testaments, it seems incredible that skeptics — knowing the
authenticity and historicity of the texts — could reject the statistical verdict.
T
he Bible was written over a span of 1500 years by forty different human authors in three different languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek), on hundreds of subjects. And yet there is one consistent, non-contradictory theme that runs through it all: God’s redemption of humankind. Clearly, Statistical probability is a powerful indicator of the trustworthiness of Scripture.
2) - I'm fully with you on the 1st part of your statement.. I do NOT understand why people that believe suddenly feel it is their job to judge others, place themselves above others, slander others, etc. etc.. There is absolutely NOTHING they did (other than accept the gift of grace) that makes them one bit better of a person.. Whether you believe or not, you sin against God.. It is in our nature and can not be avoided. It is ONLY what God did that allows them to escape the consequences of their thoughts/actions.. Most Christians really PISS ME OFF!!! They are either Bashing someone, or so apathetic that it's sickening...
If you care to look, my favorite scripture deals with this topic..
James 4:11-12
3) This is a very common view and I will address your statement "
guidance for weak minded people"
Yeah, People just like..
Isaac Newton, Louis Pasteur, Galileo Galilei, Johannes Kepler, Max Born, Enrico Fermi, Karl Friedrich Gauss, Carl Linnaeus, Alexander Fleming, J.R.R. Tolkien, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington Carver
Just a bunch of Brainless nitwits who needed guidance to fight their way out of a wet paper bag..
Sorry, I can't go along with you on this point.. However, I'd like to counter the point, IF I may.., It is very hard to create a "system" that The Smartest of the Smart can never fully comprehend and grasp all aspects of the topic,
and yet the very simple minded can grasp the concept..
I, for one, am very glad that you don't have to be an Isaac Newton to figure out the message of salvation, and God's unconditional love for his creation, I would have never gotten there, I assure you!!! :fie:
I respect your views, I really do.. I would fight for the right for you to have YOUR views..
That's the great thing.. We all have choices..
But as in all things.. Choices have consequences, some good, some bad..
Thanks for taking the time to respond Iceman..
"Doesn't matter where I was to be. We'll always be friends. You and me made friends right off the bat. Don't nobody ever change that. I kindly want to put my arm around you, then I'm gonna get up out of here and leave. " :sarcastic:
