Question regarding "luggage compartment" of a vehicle

I've got a 2007 double cab Tacoma and was wondering if the backseat could be considered the luggage compartment of the vehicle? The reason I ask is because There is no room behind the back seat, or in the glove box or center console for a rifle, and I'll be damned if I'm going to put it in the bed. So the only option I have is in the back seat. I drive 25 minutes every day to Clemson, and then after class sometimes I go up to a friend's house to shoot who is about 20 minutes on the other side of Clemson. So I'd like to be able to take my rifle with me and leave it in the truck during class, then just drive straight to his place. Now SC law pertaining to guns on campus says that if you have a CWP, you can have a firearm in a locked or attended vehicle as long as it's in the glove box, center console, or in a latching case in the "luggage compartment". Well we just went on spring break in my truck and because of weather conditions, all our luggage was in the back seat. Therefore, I would think the back seat is also a luggage compartment. I don't think they define luggage compartment anywhere do they?

Ok, nevermind I just found where it says that the luggage compartment in a truck is the area behind the rear-most seat. But there is absolutely no room behind my back seat. I guess I just have to make the trip all the way back home?

First off, I'm not familiar with the Tacoma interior, but was wondering if the seat back folds down or forward? Or possible unlatch/unbolt it and lean it forward enough to slip your weapon behind the seat. Lacking any of those suggestions, I would think a locked case on the floor would suffice. Might even think of a bed tool box for safe storage.

Well I have a sub box taking up what little space there is back there. Assuming that wasn't there, the rifle itself would fit, but not in the case, which it has to be in in order to go in the luggage compartment. And my bed is so short, that a toolbox would render it useless. And to get a toolbox small enough for this truck, the rifle most likely wouldn't forget. The only option is in the back seat or back floorboard.
