Question on my new ruger SR40c

Just got my new Ruger SR40c. I have a question about the magazine disconnect and that is how is it suppose to work. I would think that you shouldn't be able to pull the trigger without the mag in correct? If so; mine isn't working because I can pull the trigger without the mag in and I made no mods. It is new out of the box. Thanks

You can pull the trigger but the gun will not fire.

Are you sure because, when I pull the trigger in both scenarios it seems to feel the same you can see the striker come back and release. I have never owned a gun with a mag release so I am clueless but it just feels the same when i pull the trigger you can hear and see the striker release.

I have had a SR9 for a couple of years and the trigger can be pulled with the mag out. My instruction sheet says that a "dry fire " is not recommended.

That's the only modification I want on my SR40C. Night sights and remove magazine safety.

You can pull the trigger as previously mentioned only their is a spring loaded device that blocks the firing pin when doing so if you don't have a magazine inserted. The magazine disconnect can be easily removed (removed mine in like 5 minutes) and has been suspected to cause light primer strikes. I personally experience a couple light primer strikes before removing the disconnect but since removing it have no longer encountered the issue.

What I would do, is next time at the range, pop the mag out and fire it to see what happens. Also would see what the manual says.

I wanted one of these, but couldn't find one anywhere for so long that I gave up trying and ended up getting something else.

And, Remember, even thought you may have removed the Mag., there may be a round in the chamber. Make sure to eject the Chamber a couple of times for safety.
Empty guns have killed and injured many people, if you know what I mean.

Per the manual:
Going through the actions of cocking, aiming and pulling the trigger on an unloaded gun is known as “dry firing.” It can be useful to learn the “feel” of your pistol. Be certain that the pistol is fully unloaded (both the chamber and magazine are empty) and that the pistol is pointing in a safe direction even when you are practicing dry firing. The RUGER® SR-SERIES pistols can be dry fired without damage to the striker or other components as long as an empty magazine is inserted.

CAUTION: Dry firing your RUGER® SR-SERIES with the magazine removed may result in damage or unnecessary wear to the magazine disconnect mechanism and/or striker.

NOTE: When dry firing the SR-SERIES pistols, the trigger will not automatically move forward to reset. The slide must be retracted at least 1/2” to reset the trigger and firing mechanism.

So, without a mag inserted, the trigger can be pulled but the striker will hit the mag disconnect not travel forward enough to fire a round.
