How far does the FBI nationwide check for SC go back. Waiting on mine do they go into military records? Have been out of Corps 33 years never been in trouble now in service I was a little hell raiser just curious if they look at military stuff or bypass if you have never been in trouble for anything in past 33-35 years.

Thanks

I think you should put your location in your profile so that it is easier for knowledgeable people here to answer your questions, especially for future reference. No one will remember that your first post contains your location.

Anyway, welcome to this forum. I hope you will enjoy the interaction here. There is a lot to learn and lots more to give to and within this group.

I replied to your other post but I will put it here too. I'm from SC and yes they are going to look at everything. TIME that it occured does not matter to them!! I wouldn't think you would have a dis-honorable discharge because you would be prohibited from possessing a firearm period. If your discharge is anything other than honorable, you may have to produce a copy of your dd-214 for them. Your statement "I was a young Marine hell raiser" is kind of vague. You should be as specific as you feel comfortable to get the best answer on here. I would feel safe to say that if you don't have any felonies, crimes of an aggravated nature, and can produce the DD-214 if needed, you should get it. Hope this helps!!

Location is irrelevant to this question the FBI as well as the USMC are both Federal. I expect the FBI will check to see if you have an Honorable discharge and let it go art that

I would have to say his location is relevant. He may be able to purchase/possess a firearm with a NICS check in SC, but SLED sends one set of prints to the FBI and do their own background check as well. They only send off to the feds to make sure you can legally own a firearm. They have other criteria of their own that the applicant must meet before they issue the permit and SLED has final say in this, not FBI. So yeah, it's relevant. If every state were the same, one permit would be good for all.

....just a thought, Bigdaddy. The law requires that your permit be issued in 90 days. However, the question that is not answered is "are you counting business days or calendar days?
You may also want to consider the "admin and mailing days" which were required by your Instructor before SLED actually received your packet, after your class date.
This is just ANOTHER "hurry up and wait" exercise. I know you understand. :o)

@Treo -- his location may not be relevant to his question now, but no one will remember his location later on when he replies or ask another question later on in another post. Just my point. Also, in MY opinion many of those who do not put their location in their profile are people who have something to hide. though not all of them but you and I and others who are used to this forum can smell a troll a million miles away, but we sometimes makes mistakes too. But we can usually spot them after their third and/or succeeding posts.

If your DD214 says something other than "Honorable Discharge" then you're probably out of luck. The DD214 is all they check with regards to military service. Aside from that, they check to see if you're a felon, renounced your citizenship, used illicit drugs, convicted of domestic violence, etc etc etc.

If you are an upstanding citizen and were honorably discharged, then you have nothing to worry about. I acquired my Florida CWL in 3 weeks and my VA CFL in 5 days.
