I'm new to this site and not sure if this the place to post this. I work for a Hazardous material supplier(CO2) and I work at night, (11;00p - 10:00a) and I see some crazy stuff at night behind night clubs and restaurants. I need to go into allys and back streets to fill bulk Carbon Dioxide tanks. The company I work for says "NO WEAPONS" allowed. So I guess that means NO! we don't want that kind of liability , but it is also my responsibility to my wife to get home alive. I have a permit, military training, and some common sense, but I'm also under DOT regulations and possibly subject to search by law enforcement. Is there any other CDL drivers out there who CC?

There's nothing in the fmcsa book stating you can't have a firearm. State and local regulations (and your employer policy) are what you have to contend with.

I'm an otr driver and have a few permits. Luckily its legal in the places I go and no company policy against it.

If your company doesn't allow it, you can't carry. Some LEO know the companies that prohibits CCW on the job. Your circumstance is a little different. (Overnight/back alley etc..) Find out from your company if they can make an exception.

How about a ride along? Bring one of your supervisors. Might just scare the bejeezus out of him. lol

Company policy does not have the force of law, but it has enough force to get you fired for violating it. And in every company there's someone who will be happy to rat you out. Make an informed decision.

I'm no driver, but I too have a no firearms policy at work. I carry anyways due to the crappy neighborhood. The employee handbook isn't thick enough to stop a bullet! That's ALL I'm saying! Conceal is concealed for a reason!

Here is how I would do it. Carry concealed and if it comes down to a situation where you need it; use it! You lose your job either way. Either you get fired for carrying a weapon or you are dead. Your choice.

I agree with 50SR9...or at least make a case to your supervisors or to your bosses....OR change companies who would not give you the limitation you have now. OR find a new job. I know ... it is easy for me say that but think of yourself and the family you might leave behind. Is it worth it?

I wouldn't waste my time asking my boss if I could carry and I would never advise anyone to violate any company policy concerning firearms.

That said, if I opted to carry a firearm against copmpany policy I would not tell anyone I was doing so. Not even my best friend at work. If you tell one person assume everyone in the company knows.

Please don't stake your freedom on advise given over the web. Talk with an attorney!

I have a CDL but couldn't carry due to State employer rules. Not working for a state would put it up to the employer.
